These are some old pokemon ask blog characters— Kai and Missingmew.
The askblog never got far into its plot, but it was kind of a meta take on the pokemon fan/ask community and its trends… it was basically an exploration of the question “what would happen if you could hack pokemon using the pokemon pc?” This then spiralled into fusions (which were horrific melds of 2 pokemon), type swaps (Kai is a psychic sceptile, but the process removed her memory), and 100% artificial pokemon (like missingmew). The overarching plot (summed up simply) was that Missingmew was an experiment reviving Mew gone wrong (Mewtwo showed more promise), and existed essentially in this dump server for FOREVER. He eventually hacks his way out into the broader PC, though unfortunately he kind of “tethers” to Kai (which corrupts her memory and does weird things) to pull himself out. Over the course of the blog they would be shown all these weird/bad things while trying to retrieve Kai’s memories, and the Mew would go a bit crazy and conclude he needed to take over the PC entirely. Kai’s arc, on the other hand, was accepting her new life rather than searching for the past memories, and she’d eventually realize she’s not the same person anymore.
Oh well, rip. Maybe one day I’ll get back to it, who freaking knows.

Who indeed knows! That does sound like kind of a funky yet interesting kind of story!
But heck, the idea of having your mind wiped in a way and replaced with someone's or just fresh is kind of scary! But I do have to guess that acceptance is definitely a big thing anyone could do!
