High Shaman Fergelm does not have a proper 'heir' or an individual to replace him when his time on Norrath inevitably comes to an end. Since his son Jardakk is due to replace Glefy as the next High Chief, Fergelm needed to select and train an individual who was also a shaman within the Darkfell clan. After a relatively picky selection process, Fergelm decided to pick Eltha as his apprentice to train as the next High Shaman of the clan. It was a no-brainer choice, given Eltha's natural attunement to the spirits of the deceased, but Fergelm merely wanted to be absolutely sure he picked the best-possible individual. At a young age, Eltha was always fascinated with the dead, but in a good, non-heinous or necromatic way. Growing up, Eltha always visited the Darkfell catacombs every night, simply and idly sitting down by the coffins of the clan's buried and honored dead. She claimed she could hear voices, and would often have conversations with what others could not see. It was then she discovered she, much like Fergelm when he was younger, was chosen to be a 'guide'- a bridge between the realm of the living and dead. Honored to have the attention, favor, and now the privilege of being the High Shaman's apprentice, Eltha knew this was an opportunity she absolutely could not let slip past her. Serving with honor and dignity, Eltha learned much with Fergelm guiding her, and Eltha has even possessed the ability to peer into both the future and the past, much like how Fergelm can. Though she's still an apprentice all the same, and regardless of her natural affinity for the spirit world, she hasn't quite perfected her ability to peer into the past and future alike just yet.
