A design for one of the races in my war game. I plan on basing these races on animals, but changing them up a bit to make them more alien (rather than them being just straight forward rabbit people of wolf people or what have you) :)
This is a Lapan. Originally I made him with your standard fluffy tail but I changed that up a bit to give it a differnet feel.
Lapan stand at about 3'6'' for the most part (though there are larger breeds) and tend to field large numbers of infantry. They excel and digging in and creating complex defensive areas. They use a lot of heavy artillery. They are fleet of foot, good at jumping and also good at digging. They are not physically strong compared to other races but are stubborn in the defence.
A standard infantry squad consist of two sections, each made up of 5 Lapan. One section is lead by the squad sergeant (who's in charge of the whole squad) while the other section is lead my a corporal. The standard equipment of the Lapan infantry is a bolt action rifle, though NCOs are often equipped with a sub-machine gun, shotgun or grenade launcher. A squad may also be provided with a light machine gun or an anti-tank rifle.
Heavier support weapons such as mortars, heavy machine guns and light anti tank guns are formed into their own support sections seperate from the standard infantry squad. These sections may be assigned to support a platoon.
An infantry platoon consists of 5 squads (40 men, 10 NCO's) and is lead by a lieutenant and a sergeant major along with three additional enlisted men who form an HQ section. As stated above, additional support sections may be added to a platoon such as heavy weapon teams, engineers and medical units (though each squad will have its own assigned medic). Some infantry platoons will be assigned and trained in the use of motorised transport or armoured transport, gaining the designation 'motorised rifles' or 'mechanised rifles'. Such units tend to be used as a mobile reserve to re-enforce sections of the line that are under pressure from the enemy.
