In the immortal words of Adam west: "Some days, you just can't get rid of a bard."
This was an idea I've been sitting on for a long time, but I only just now found the right person to help me bring it to life. I don't have names for these characters yet, but I at least need to come up with one for the tiefling witch, because I've got an idea for her character and I think I could have some more fun with her.
I've got this idea, where she's trying so hard to be a mean and nasty witch, but it just never seems to go right. As you can see, in this case, she was annoyed at how in-your-face cheerful the bard was and thought she could change his tune from Sunshine, Lollypops, and Rainbows to It's Not Easy Being Green. Unfortunately, this bard is an endless barrel of optimism.
I also love the joke of unshakeable confidence juxtaposed against complete incompetence. Dunning-Kruger Syndrome FTW!
Art-wise, this one had some frustrations. XBC9 always has really good line-art, but it's got a lot of stylistic elements that don't transfer into vector art very easily and there are some aspects that the conversion that just didn't carry over. Really minor things, and most of them on the first three panels where the bard is really far away and it was challenging to work out the lines because the small size makes them low resolution, leaving me trying to guess exactly where they should go. I don't think the pic is large enough to really see most of the loss, though, so I guess that's okay. XBC9 did give me some suggestions on things to try in the future that may let me preserve the lines better. I don't know if they'll completely work, but I'm always open to trying new things, so next time I'll give it a shot and see.
Edit: I've decided to name this character Chiara Oscuro. It's punning on chiaroscuro, an artistic principle where there's strong contrast between light and dark, playing on the fact that there is often huge contrast between her dark intent and the light-hearted consequences of her actions.

If you want to see tfs backfiring, you can check out Dearshull, who's drawn a lot of sequences for my character, Johnny, who is based entirely around that gag.
But you can probably expect to see more of this character in the future, because I like her. Need to come up with a name for her first.
