I had some help with this one. It’s that he’s trying to find a way to get rid of the infection in Hollow Nest, and he does this by creating vessels, his children that can’t be infected unless they show emotion. Many of them did, and they were cast out into an abyss. The Entity saw this act, and gave the Pale King a chance to cure the infection by coming to its realm.
