This is not an authentic one, but rather a replica or representation of a "Bootleg" coal mine. Durring the Great Depression many people were desparate to make one and or survive any way that could. Bootleg mines were illegal operations where an individual would dig his own shaft on a mining comapny's property and litterally stole coal before the miners in the mian shafts got to it. The Bootleg miner would either sell the coal or keep it for himself for fuel durring winter.
