Was in the Cholla Cactus Garden in Joshua Tree a few months ago, and this handsome guy came wandering out of the bundu. He was so lovely, I had to get as good a pic as I could.
EDIT: I submitted this and two other pix for

The tail is smooth, as is most of the body, and light coloured- the few Whiptail lizards I've managed to spot have more obvious shield-like scales in darker colours, if I remember right. They live in the area, too, and I think I might have some photos of a few. They get really cool in their mating colours- blues, oranges, reds and greens show up under the dark greeny-brown. Handsome lizards in their own right.
This fellow was about ten inches long- a hefty size for a lizard in the area, from what I've seen. Probably weighed in at a good pound, at least. I think Whiptails are somewhat smaller- all of the ones I'd seen (which I often confused with the fence-lizards because they're similar in appearance to my eye- fence lizards are even smaller, though) were smaller than the white ones. I'd never seen the white lizards until hitting the Cholla Garden, in Joshua Tree- I was joyed to see a species I didn't know and took lots of pics of any who were kind enough to show themselves.
