Move over, Buzzwole. There's another bug-fighting Ultra Beast taking your title as "the swollen Pokemon."
It's been sort of a fat minute since the last time I drew a round Pokemon, huh? Well, don't worry. Whether you prefer Pokemon or original characters, I don't intend on stopping either. I've been sort of on a roll with insects for the past couple of weeks, so it only made sense to continue that with the under-appreciated type that is bug.
And when I say underappreciated, I mean it. Before posting this image, I could only find 10 results for "Pheromosa inflation" on furaffinity; I consider that to be criminally low considering her design. Maybe she's not the easiest to inflate, with her jointed body structure and whatnot, but I wouldn't mind it at all if more people made art of this big bug.
For the image itself, the one idea that stuck out to me when making it was "Pheromosa comes to Earth and has an unexpected reaction to the local food." Given that she hails from a completely alien dimension, even something as mundane as an oran berry could have unforeseen effects on her body.
I realize it would have been easy to turn this into a blueberry pic, but eh, I just wanted to see a Pheromosa get big and heavy this time around.

I was fine with a break from pokemon, but I'm also glad it was just a break. All the round things are good.
The strange and the bizarre often go unobserved, it can seem. People get cozy in their common aesthetics and the things easy on the eyes, and humans aren't predisposed towards trying new things. Bugs, lizards, and plants are ignored for that reason and it sucks. This critter proves even a roach can be aesthetically pleasing. And you proved you can make it playfully round and fun.
Also I like the alien biology excuse. A an interesting and unique inflation method in this day and age. And fat and round is better than blueberries anyway (in my opinion).

The funny thing is, at least when it comes to real life, I DESPISE roaches. Even if I can appreciate most other kinds of bugs, including the ones that are typically viewed as being creepy, I just can't get over how much cockroaches unnerve me. But somehow, once those roaches become fictional, I suddenly feel a lot more positive about them. The roach from Wall-E is a good example; instead of being put off by it, I actually find it quite cute.
And as this image shows, Pheromosa also manages to break my fear. It helps that she's roughly person-sized instead of being this tiny little monstrosity, but the thing I love about her and the other Ultra Beasts is how unusual they look compared to more traditional Pokémon designs. They actually look like true aliens, being unlike anything we're used to. And since Pheromosa happens to resemble a very skinny lady, I can't help but feel the desire to turn her into a very round one.
