She wasn't killed by the zerg, but she was taken to Char where she became the queen of blades.

It's something along the lines of the Overmind creating a powerful army for invasion, similar to a sub-leader. She was basically chosen to control the zerg to some extent, and when the Overmind was destroyed, took control as the leader of the entire colony. Before infestation Kerrigan had strong traits, especially because she was one of the special Ops. Infestation by the Overmind gave her much more power then mutation by zerg sub-units.

so.. the Overmind mind controlled or infect Kerrigan and when the Overmind was destroyed, she became the leader of the colony, right?

Pretty much. When the Overmind existed, it controlled all of the zerg, and everything the zerg mutated. It wasn't until Zeratul and the Dark Templars destroyed the cerebrates, that the Overmind began to fall.

in starCraft 1, Mission 9 on Terrans, After defeating all protess with Kerrigan, a wave of Zergs started to Attack. Kerrigan requested back up but Arcturcs denied the request and left her there to die, but apparently the zerg took her in and made her into their queen.
