California is the fifth largest economy in the world. It must be doing something right.

there's a veneer there
- california is actually facing a major emigration issue. tons of people are moving to red states with lower taxes. This is one factor (out of many) why a lot of dems and cali politicians are in huge support of counting Illegal as Census Residents: if you don't count illegals as census residents Cali will lose seats in the House come next cycle
- the film industry (the major proponent of "BIG ECONOMY" is only based in California by name. Almost all operations have either moved out of state (Georgia being a popular hub) or out of country where, again, lower taxes
- even then, the lie of "CALI IS BIG ECONOMY" falls apart when you factor in the deficit issue they have with the US Government. The Cali government spends WAY more than it pulls in via taxes ... enough so that they've been a leech on the Fed since .... ever since I can remember. Conversely, Texas has been a positive contributor to the federal gov since forever.

Besides, if all that wasn't enough - you should look up some articles on California's homeless crisis. Those issues are in direct conflict to any claims of prosperity.

also, they cook the hell out of those books. it's hard to really have legitimate claims of economy when everything outside the handful of major cities is 3rd world standards ... and everything within is barely even that

The only thing California did right is a few good 1980s metal bands.

California's economy is 3 fold
- Govt: nasa, jet lab, defense, etc
- Silicon Valley
- Hollywood

It'd be neat if it became North and South Cali.

I'd guess more people would prefer east and west cali - leave the lunatics to their beaches.
