Sparkling Citrusy Tropical Punch
A wonderfully complex, somewhat tart, refreshing punch Vrghr created to accompany a massive chicken cookout on a hot Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Wuffy didn't want this to be too sweet, so it would be more refreshing than cloying for a hot afternoon. Rather like a fresh lemonade would. The addition of lemon juice and Florida Key Lime juice brought the desired tartness and some bright, crisp flavor. Two pounds of assorted frozen tropical fruits added some delightful tropical sweetness, as well as helping to chill the mix down.
Mango nectar adds more tropical complexity. Frozen orange juice adds even more citrus notes. Add a half gallon of white grape + peach juice forms the foundation. 3 liters of sparkly Club Soda brings the fizz.
Wuff served this with slices of orange to garnish the glass.
NOTE: This is a non-alcoholic version punch. However, Vrghr has it on good authority that some Bacardi 151, or perhaps some Vodka, would be a nice mix with this if you wanted to kick things up a bit.
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup sugar (optional, to taste (Wuff didn’t use any))
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup Key West Lime juice
2 Qts cold white grape and peach mixed juice, chilled
2 cans Mango Nectar, chilled
3 liters club soda, chilled
1 can frozen Orange Juice
2 lb Frozen Mixed Fruit (oranges, strawberries, mangoes, peaches)
Ice cubes, as needed to keep chilled
1 medium orange, sliced into segments for garnish
DIRECTIONS:
Chill all the juices in the refrigerator before mixing to keep your punch nice and frosty without diluting it with too much ice
Add the frozen orange juice and about half of all the other liquids EXCEPT the club soda. Stir vigorously until the frozen orange juice melts and combines
Add the rest of the juices and the frozen fruits. Mix together again. Allow to rest about 10-15 minutes for the frozen fruits to melt a bit and infuse their flavors to the punch
Slowly pour in the club soda to preserve the fizz
Serve in chilled classes over ice, and garnish with a slice of orange segment
