. . .
“You FOOL!” Fenris’s voice roared through the bitter cold, the wolf’s bark as deadly as any man’s bite
by the look of panic on the bandit’s face. Miorjah wished nothing more to cling to him for safety in
the chaos, but staring at him in action made her shiver, pulling her fluffy coat tighter around herself
as she stepped back.
“To the carriage, NOW!” Fenris called out behind her, having the mare nearly squeak, a sharp,
shrill noise as she stepped back. The fury on the towering lupine male’s face was clear, and when
the foolish bandit raised the tarnished knife in unkept lupine claws. Unphased, Fenris’ hand went to
the smaller male’s cloak, tearing into it and having the bandit recoil in fear.
The visage of the King clear, and while to most the blue-clad Iotunnulf looked like any lupine,
the tale of the scarred tawny king and his ferocity around the mythical charge had reached even the
little villages that the caravan had passed, and the mistake of greed landed the small group within
the claws of the feared King themselves. The death cries of his allies as the guards recovered from
the confusion of the ambush had the Bandit drop his blade, crashing into the snow-laden mud.
“Y-your Majesty, it was but a m-misunderstanding!” The smaller wolf pleaded.
“Misunderstanding? You blubbering whelp! Your witless pillaging is your doom!” Fenris roared. In an instant,
the towering warrior threw the bandit to the floor, and a single stomp led out a painful crack and cry in
echo of the looter’s brethren. Suddenly, besides the clink of metal and soft movements of the guards,
there was silence. Fenris exhaled long, turning his attention back to Miorjah, not wasting a moment to
relish or curse the looters. Miorjah, who clung to the decorated carriage like her life depended on it,
kept her eyes on the floating snow and away from blood and death. The King minded his bloody hand,
reaching out with one unmarred to the Mare in her cloak of red.
“Are you hurt?” Fenris’ low voice rang out, bringing Miorjah away from her fearful stupor. The Licorne’s
eyelashes fluttered and her head turned up to the massive King of the North.
“N-No. I’m fine, I..” Miorjah stumbled over her words, eyes wide and glossy in the winter night. Fenris
let out a long exhale. “You must be more careful, never leave the carriage, girl.”
Miorjah nodded, her voice quivering . “I... I won’t, not again.” The mare’s ocean eyes had drifted from
the lupine’s golden gaze, to the crumpled and broken bodies of friend and foe alike, being overtaken by winter.
The mare stared at the corpses as she felt Fenris’ hand leave her, and his voice echoed into the night,
orders to recoup, to keep moving.
