Note : this story writtent below is entirely fictional, but inspired by some sights that have been really reported especially in Texas from times to times.
I was a teenager when I did that trip to Texas in a semi-arid land. Some details will be engraved forever in my memory, though as time passes, I tend to doubt more and more about the fact itself, like it was a dream or a mistake. But I do remember I promised myself this day to NEVER doubt about that exceptional encounter, so...
It was a warm day, not too hot hopefully. I don't even remember the month, just the year, 1988. I was reading a book about quantic physics I recently bought, and left my case with a sandwich opened for some reason I don't remember anymore. Totally into my book, I heard something flying just above my hat, a very soft sound for a shadow I saw in a glance I thought was quite large, and the thing landed behind a bush in front of me. My book was more interesting than a bird that would probably disappear if I made any movement, so I didn't raise my eyes to track it. A dozen seconds later, something was moving towards me and my case, at the limit of my eye sight. I realized unconciously this movement was annoying, it was not the skipping I'd wait from a bird, but rather an unusual crawling from something light but with strange, thin "extensions". This time, I raised my eyes... And what I saw made my heart beat very hard. I am found of nature, animals and all those things, and what was leaning on my case in front of me was no bird at all, it was not even a mammal like a day bat. It was a winged reptile, and the last one I saw something of its kind was in a book about prehistoric creatures. The reptilian head that has no equivalent nowadays, the folded "wings" with three fingers at the middle the creature was using as forelegs, the long tail ending with a rhomboïd shape and the very light fur not common at all in modern reptiles, this creature was a pterodactyle, as incredible as it looks, there was absolutely no mistake about it. It bent its head in my case, took a piece of my sandwich and immediatly lifted off - by the time I was on my feet, it had disappeared behind the dense bushes and it was impossible to tell where it went.
I never saw that creature again and never told anybody about it, I knew it was just too silly and incredible to tell, above all as I had no proof at all about my sight : no track on the hard ground, not even the marks of its teeth on my sandwich, as it took a piece that was already broken apart.
Do you know how HEAVY it is to carry such an incredible story without being able to tell it to anybody ? But one day, I'll get back there and I'll explore the entire region for YEARS if needed, until I'll find a proof about the most extraordinary encounter I ever had.

I know all that ! (anyway, the archaeopteryx was not yet a bird...) Look in the middle of the page I gave, there is a comparative between many wings (bats, birds, pterosaurs), the first one being of a pterodactyl - that is EXACTLY what I drew, minus the wrist and a piece of membrane before the arm.
Cryptozoology fascinates me. It's so stupid to say a species can't possibly exist until somedipshit's shot it and sent it to Western scienists. There could very well be tiny pterydactyls. Why not? The alligator's existed for millions of years without needing to change. Reports of bronotsauruses come out of Africa from time to time. And hell, El Chupacabras is probably real in some form (my pet theory is that it's a flightless housecat-sized vampire bat).
Yep, I am myself a member of a french cryptozoology mailing list, the most serious I ever saw, here is its website : http://perso.orange.fr/cryptozoo/index.htm

Barloy ! :) =>
