Very nice. The descriptions are well written and provide a very vibrant mental image for the reader. While it does show you do have good writing skills, it doesn't show much due to it's length. It just feels like it ended too soon. I would suggest expanding this story or writing a longer different story.

You're right that it is rather short. It's one of those things I wrote in a day. I have much longer stories, that have more complete and well rounded pacing, but I want writing to be my career (rather than art) and if I put the best stories up, a publisher won't touch it.
But I do really like this story, so maybe in the future this will be extended and turned into a little project.

I understand your reluctance to post your best stories on the internet. Most publishers won't republish something that is already on the internet. Publishers like things that are new and so it's a good idea to keep an array of stories to be published.
I'm also looking for a career in writing, but writing careers are a lot of work. The best thing to do is keep writing, writing, writing. While doing so, keep improving your writing skills and meet people that will help launch your career as a writer. It's not a smooth road at all, but I think both of us know that.
