In the 80s Marvel started Star Comics, a side line of chidren's books, trying to fill the void Harvey Comics left. I was reading a collection of some of these books and was struck by the designs in Planet Terry, a serial space-adventure comic about Terry searching the starways for his parents. So in issue #3 he ends up teaming up with Elfin, of the planet Burf, to complete an adulthood ritual that involves grabbing a ruby from the Ruby Monster. (The gem instantly regenerates so it's not like this is the theft that it is.) Anyway, Terry's a nice enough design and Elfin the Burfian was also adorable so I drew a panel.

I didn't know at the time but it turns out the pencils were by Warren Kremer (inks by Vince Colletta). Should have guessed.
