here's a quick list of what one needs to know about sam and max

Sam's a dog about 6ft tall (normaly, but now he's more like 10 >:3)

Max's a rabbit who is leagaly and illegaly insane and psycopathic. He also became president of the U.S. in an emergancy ellection.

Momma bosco: mother of Bosco, was a ghost but was resreected via clone (now bald)

Bosco: a paranoide-conspiercy-fearing-disquise-loving store owner who is currently in vegas with the goal of winning big (though his is now in the hole so deep the sun don't shine)

Cornor of Straight and Narrow: the street cornor that Sam and max live on. Their office is on the street, along with Bosco's inconvince, and Stinky's dinner across the street

Stinky's dinner: beware ye who eat here! They used to have a short order cheif named sal who was a 7ft cockroach. The owner, Grampa Stinky is as old as the hills and meaner then a drunking scottsman. he has a thing for pirate shanties and he is always tryting to make it rich with his recipies. Girl Stinky is Grampa Stinky's grandaughyer, although she is really a Deomonic cake recipie with an extra rib (don't worry, as long as you don't say her "real name" girl stinky will remain her sluky sexy self.
