Modern Raccoons

Having noticed I hadn't drawn any full fanart of The Raccoons this year I thought it would be fun to see what it would be like if they were still going in the 2010s. I think that regardless of the ever changing face of technology around them, the characters will still remain pretty much just as likable!
There are a few things that you will easily spot between the two pictures;
* In the 1980s Bert plays a real guitar. But today he'd probably have as much fun with something like 'Guitar Hero'.
* The Raccoons have an ordinary TV and a VCR in the 1980s. Today they have a LCD TV complete with Playstation 3, Wii and DVD player!
* Lisa uses a brick phone in the 1980s (which would have been considered a luxury at the time!), now she has the same phone most of us carry!
* Throughout the course of the series Bentley had a laptop computer that was the size of a small suitcase. Now he has a netbook!
* Ralph LOVED his record deck and walkman in the 1980s. Today I imagine he will have traded it in for something like an iStation for his MP3 player!
* Though not shown, Melissa would now have a digital camera instead of one that uses film.
* You may also notice the portrait of The Raccoons' creator Kevin Gillis (I'm not great at charicatures!) changes in accordance to the time period, yet The Raccoons themselves haven't aged!
It is interesting what difference three decades makes!

amazing what there is and what there was. and yet it feels like nothing has changed
Cool pic!
Great idea overall!
Great show. Too bad Disney stopped carrying it in the early 1990's. I think it might be available on DVD.
I love the way you've done this - not just how you've captured the characters, but also the subtle things. The picture of a scene from the Evergreen Forest itself in the 2010 picture, for instance. And Melissa's classic scowl in the 1980s picture!!
Great work!
Wait, what's the DVD player for?
Noo this doesn't make me feel old at all *slides raccoons stash under desk* -_-
I used to watch this show when I was younger. Heheh. It's amazing to see all the changes in technology over a 30 year period!
Squawk!
Gotta love seeing how things change over time too, it appeals to my time travelling sensibilities :P
nicely done
All seriousness aside, that's one HECK of a comparison! Talk about how times have changed, wow!!
Have you considered uploading this to the Raccoons group on Yahoo?
I also remember loving this cartoon even then, so it's nice that some things never change. Spiffy pic, by the by. :3
That said, I never knew of Alf till I got older =P
And yet, I didn't even hear of this series until around 2006 when I was near twenty. Go figure!
I'd hope Bert'd still play his old guitar from time to time at least; one thing that worries me a little bit about Guitar Hero is that I worry people may opt to play the game rather than actually learn to play a real guitar. (Being able to play "Free Bird" on Guitar Hero is a LOT different from being able to actually play it on an actual guitar!) But oh yeah, I could definitely see Bert keeping up with the times and still playing video games right up to the present day. I could easily see Bert LOVING Pokemon (or its' Raccoons equivalent) when it came out in the late '90s
