Special Agent Field Reports: May 2020
Secret Agent Avia Jiutai accompanied a sample of the teal moss, that Agent Rakkin recovered last month, as it was being transferred to a special research center in southern Africa: a necessary step as a local civil war caused damage to the agent's covert ground transport and forced a detour through an old cemetery. The agent reported that some of the moss was lost during emergency transfer to an escape vehicle. The following day, Agent Jiutai and his convoy were forced to return to the cemetery following bizarre reports to local police of "zombies"* (*translated from similar local mythology). Agent Jiutai arrived to find that some of the skeletons and bodies buried within the cemetery had become infested with the teal moss, and had begun to exhume themselves from the dry earth. The animated corpses did not seem aggressive or at all intelligent but, for the safety and sanity of the local communities, the agent disassembled and destroyed them. Special units have been sent to quarantine the area and ensure that no moss spread any further into the local ecosystem.
Secret Agent Gedat Rakkin returned to Brazil to study the giant, invisible form responsible for the mysterious sounds of horns and machinery. The object so far has only been visible through infrared imagery and is otherwise completely invisible and intangible; rain and weather does not interact with it, and drones, sent to make physical contact, cannot seem to touch it. Through infrared satellite imagery, the object has been tracked as it slowly moved south from Porto Velho into Nova Mamore, bringing with it the deep noise it generates. Agent Rakkin chose to pilot a helicopter equipped with special infrared cameras and emitters and attempted to communicate with it, testing the assumption that it was a creature. The agent reports brief success: flashing a series of infrared pulses at the object caused it to respond with a similar, but different, series of pulses, perhaps indicating communication and not simple reflection or echoing. After further attempts, however, the agent and his aircraft's crew were assaulted by sudden, massive heat, enough to cause severe burns and damage equipment. Agent Rakkin and the helicopter crew are still undergoing burn treatment as of this report, and the infrared object continues its slow migration southward. No attacks or damage on local inhabitants or wildlife has been reported.
Senior Special Agent Fenix Blackpaw reported a very specific and elaborate dream in which he met the self-described "Prince of Dreams". Calling himself Prince Zhaveh Azarin III, the blue canine apparently gave the sleeping agent a long tour of his kingdom, which bore a striking resemblance to some of the descriptions provided by Agent Rakkin in previous reports while using the Dreamscape Device, despite Agent Blackpaw having never used one. As if to provide evidence to his sovereignty over dreams, Prince Azarin described events and figures seen in the dreams of other SIU Agents that same night, as corroborated by those agent's (mandatory) dream journals. Agent Blackpaw has failed all current tests for determining psychic powers or mastery of divination, which rules out the accidental reading of the minds of the other agents. The agent reports that his dream ended with the prince warning of a future danger, which will require SIU assistance. We are monitoring the situation closely.
Special Agent Cat Zirka was contacted by an archaeologist from a small town bordering the Gobi Desert. She had been studying large boulders that had recently been uncovered as a result of the desert's slow expansion. The archaeologist refused to say what the problem was until Agent Zirka arrived, at which point she revealed her studies on some of the large rocks: claiming her belief that they are actually giant bones. Agent Zirka reviewed her evidence, performing her own experiments on the objects, and had no choice but to reach the same conclusion: some of the two-ton boulders, found under what was once hilly grassland, are the largest bones to have ever been discovered. On further study, the two reasoned that they were most likely vertebrae. If true, this would suggest an ancient creature many times more massive than even the largest dinosaurs ever discovered. Archaeologists from around the world are being flown to the site to further study the bones and attempt to discover more. Agent Zirka is staying in the area for further investigation into the authenticity of this finding.
Special Agent Chaz Gates claims she is being flirted with by modern art sculptures. Allowed some (heavily monitored) vacation leave after a series of stressful missions and events, Agent Gates visited the opening of an art museum in New Cairo which featured the works of local artists, mostly students. Among the collection of collages, plaster faces, and virtual-reality hellscapes were a series of abstract animals, vague feral forms made of bold shapes and metal piping. Gates claims that the statues moved whenever she wasn't looking at them, appearing in different positions and in different locations each time she saw them. With no witnesses to confirm this, and no security footage to rely on, Chaz decided to infiltrate the museum at night to observe the statues. Several hours into the building being vacated for the night, Chaz returned and found that most of the art in the building had been destroyed, with evidence that, while unobserved, the feral statues had damaged the other works of art. To avoid implication in the vandalism, Agent Chaz anonymously contacted local authorities, who reported the situation as a break-in to news outlets, mentioning the theft of one statue among the many destroyed. The next night, Chaz discovered that her hotel room had been broken into and that one of the smaller sculptures was in her room, holding a flower in its cut-metal mouth. All sculptures have been seized by SIU scientists for study.
Special Agent Kouroth was traveling through rural japan, tracking down rumors of a potentially new cryptid, when his search was interrupted by a gastronomic mystery. While interviewing locals, Agent Kouroth was offered food with a very bizarre taste, described by the agent as a flavor like he’d never tasted before. Inquiring further, the local, an 85-year-old man who spent his youth as a sailor, showed off a dried, powdered blue spice. The old man, who wished to remain anonymous (redacted files available upon request with proper clearance), claims to have discovered a rare herb on a southern Oceanian island which he brought home, powdered, and used as a spice. Samples sent to the SIU labs show the powder to indeed be the dried residue of an unknown plant. The old man was unable to provide any meaningful direction towards where they herb may have been harvested, and local governments have been commissioned to help find more of this strange, brand new flavor.
The staff of Madam Zee's Museum of Mysteries requested help in identifying the origins of a collection of what they described as "voodoo dolls". Special Agent Neo was able to quickly determine that most of them were modern hoaxes, owing in most part due to their alleged ties to Haitian culture despite actual, historical dolls of this nature having a European origin. One figure, however, was declared as potentially authentic by the agent. Due to its confirmed age and composition, he more accurately described it as a poppet, an occult object with ties to English witchcraft. Genetic material was found within the wax of the figure, which may point to one of a series of mysterious deaths of English nobles in the 16th century. Agent Nero's research was able to confirm some genetic ties to one of the victims, although this correlation may be impossible to verify. The figure is undergoing deep scans and will be returned to the museum soon, due to the nature of such curses in folklore as having a single target and complex rituals, it has been deemed to be of no threat, even if the potential occult implication in the 16th century death turned out to be true.
