Bell/Spaz Janoe was a kitten when my mother adopted her from a friend of hers. They said the little kitten was lucky as the friend of my mother's son was driving down a road he normally didn't on a cold winter day. He saw a box and a little paw sticking out of it, so he pulled over to pick it up just to find a bob-tailed kitten freezing inside. My mother took the little kitten in when her friend said they didn't have the room to keep the kitten around.
I objected as we had lost at least four pets before from a number of things. But she didn't hear me out. My mom passed a few years ago but my sister and a were the little kittens, now known as Spaz when she is bitty, and Bell in all other times, owners. We fed her, changed her litter, and took care of her.
She had a fungal infection at one point but some antibiotics helped heal that up. Then she developed an allergy to Salom. We changed her food and all was well.
Until two weeks ago. She stopped eating and we didn't know why. She lost weight and started getting sluggish, so we asked mudbay's attendent what they thought it might be, they said cats sometimes get tired of their food and so we picked up new foods. She ate again! My sister and I were so happy... until she stopped eating once more. We were out of options so we set up a vet visit for her.
Bell was 14ish years old and the visit to the vet cause great distress in her. I didn't want her last years to be living in dread at monthly visits to the vet. Well, I don't have to worry about that anymore.
We took her in today, 6/20/2021 in the morning, and told the vet that we strongly thought it was something to do with Bell's teeth, then went home. When we got home we waited for them to call us and tell us how much it was going to cost to either fix Bell's tooth/teeth, or remove them.
Around 1:25 PM we got a callback. Bell's blood work told the vet that her kidneys were failing, and she had liver disease. After talking about how it would be costly to treat those before even allowing the vet to use the meds to allow them to look at Bell's tooth I asked, "Would Bell recover well after treating those?" It was a mixed answer that had low chances of a yes.
Later this day, my dad, my sister, and I returned to the vet. We took some more pictures of Bell, held her in our arms, and cried. All the while the little old kitten looked around the room with curiosity in her eyes.
I called in the vet, she walked my sister and me through the next steps. Then I held her head as the first injection was put in and felt her pass out. Then the next and I felt her heartbeat and breathing stop.
I am regretting that I wasn't strong enough to tell Bell one last thing before she left.
Good bye Bell.
