was when this guy was made, which was one year before I was.
found this today at salvation army. 5$ was a good deal.
and the little guy still works.
2 mods are already planed
gonna give it a black lit screen as soon as I figure out how.
and then hopefully get a hack cart for it I found them but they are expensive as hell.
nice to hold one of these again, never had the white brick as a kid, makes me think back to then which is a very reassuring though. think this thing is gonna get much use.

You, clearly, are not now, nor have ever been, a gamer. To hold an original, working Game Boy, is joy. As is blowing futilely on an NES cartridge or singing "Seeeegaaa" as the console boots up.
As I write this, my wife says, "That's not fair." And no, I suppose it isn't. But we're talking about having the opportunity to enjoy a piece of video game history... and an important piece, at that. More than 118 million Game Boys were sold—almost 3 times the number of Xbox 360s in households today. And maybe you, like this fellow, never held, never played, a Game Boy. But to acquire one, only to turn around and sell it again, is a crass disregard for true value and excellence. This Game Boy is worth more than money and it should be cherished and enjoyed.

thank you. my first game boy was a colour, and always wanted a brick.
I love retro things, my mind was blown when I saw the thing, I knew I had to have it. thing was a guy came by and bought a case that looked like one of these. I wonder how many are left now. considerer there were so many, ones that died, the mod ones now, how many actually work. I was happy that it did work. I found a mod card for it that lets me put one rom on it at a time so I mite get that so I can use it for more then just Pokemon red.

Are you insane?
I was using one of these things back when I thought the only place humans had hair was on their head.
Played Tetris and Mario until the batteries died, then spent my allowance on new batteries (which left no money to buy new games with)
You'd be insane to sell it.

wow people got heated up for me saying you could sell it for more, its just what I would have done because I love the new games and consoles. I keep things like that for the hopes that one day i can sell it to get something. I used to have one of those too, but i upgraded to color, then to advanced, and then to DS. I'm not saying its a shit product and that it is only good for selling but that the games on it just don't enterain me like they use to. I'm not so angry at you for this because I consider myself a hardcore gamer, and just because I dont want ot keep an old game system does not make me not one. wow I went on a little rant there
If only the brick had a backlight back in the day! I used to have to use this to play under my bedcovers: http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/.....6/lightboy.jpg
I got to play one of these at my aunts, it was nice, then my dad got me a gameboy colour cause well all my friends had one and would come over and all play theirs together, and I would be left out so he got me one. then I got a gba for xmas, and from then on out I bought my own sp, ds and dsxl, my parents don't support video games so I had to also buy my own n64 at the age of 9. how I did I will never know
its good for me. I can't see the lights screen so the bigger pixels mean my eyes have to strain less making them last longer, and also not have to work as hard. if you have a hard time seeing the screen on your current ds then I would say its a good investment. if not its the same thing as your current, dsi. also the 3ds still has about two year till it comes out 1.5 at the least. so not a bad idea.
Don't mod it! Take the chance to leap back and play the games the way they were in the day. You'll gain two things: an appreciation for classics and the ability for games to be amazing without modern accouterments, and a greater appreciation for those accouterments today.
If you want to play classic gameboy games with a backlit screen, rather than mod (and thus cheapen) this device, pick up a Game Boy Advance SP. They have backlighting and can play the original games as well. And they'll cost a fair chunk less than potentially damaging a perfectly good piece of hardware.

I have an sp. sadly my vision is so bad I can't see any thing on the screen, also being red green colour blind made it so when I tested it on red version today I was unable to see anything it was just a cloudy mess of green and black. my friend tho was able to see it fine. it I shine a flash light on it I can see it. also I was around when this came out my parents just don't support video games. my first was a colour. I'm not keen on editing it, but that one mod needs to be done I think. most likely I will get to lazy and mod my old gbc light thing to fit this, won't be too hard to do. or get one of the old stick ones from a store by my house that sells retro games. I love just holding it. also the mod cart is a need due to getting game for it is hard.
