Just me sprawled out lazily in the morning, watching the planes go by, carelessly obstructing traffic and generally being the giant pest any self-respecting fox would be at this size.

Oh man, contrary to what macro artists (like me) draw, macros are fairly fragile. So a standard issue rifle might not cause serious damage to a fox that big, pretty much anything else that the military has would knock us dead.
Suspension of disbelief is the word. If you're willing to even give the concept of giant foxes a try, then you can pretty much throw any other concepts you want out the window too.
