Grabenfeld Regional Pokédex #1 and #2: Beeloon and Blitz...
Grabenfeld, as a region, is not overtly known for its rolling hills, flowered fields and babbling brooks. It is a war-torn landscape, poisoned by decades of conflict between the residents and their neighbors. That is not, however, to say that Grabenfeld doesn't have beauty. In the border regions, especially in mountain foothills, and in scattered islands of tranquility throughout the harsh terrain one can find oases of verdant growth. These patches are not unsullied by war, but have rather developed in spite of it, often times incorporating some elements of the very weapons that have otherwise devastated Grabenfeld's wilderness.
And in these patches of life, one can find many unique Pokémon, including the delightfully odd pairing of Beeloon and Blitzep. Beeloon is a large, soft, roughly beach ball-sized Pokémon, known for musical buzzing, a placid and curious demeanor, and nearly always carrying a ball of pollen tucked close to its belly. They are rarely found in conflict in the wild, partially because of their benign nature, and partially because of their natural defense: The pollen that they gather comes from a number of flowers that have developed in the wake of the territorial wars, and is actually extremely volatile. When "activated" by squeezing, the pollen balls can actually detonate with remarkable loudness and a blinding flash, providing Beeloon with a perfect defense strategy to either escape, or gather members of its hive for a counter-attack.
While the sting of the Beeloon isn't necessarily that dangerous (the stinger is quite blunt, and it's more likely to leave a bruise than a puncture), enough of them can easily bully more aggressive Pokémon out of their fields. When not gathering pollen to take back to their extensive burrow-hives, they tend to attach themselves to long plant stalks or tall flowers and sway in the breeze, their gas-filled bodies allowing them to float effortlessly, despite their miniscule and impractical-looking wings.
When a Beeloon consumes a rare form of pollen they can evolve into a more impressive, and powerful, form: Blitzep. Blitzep is much larger; easily as long as a man is tall, though its weight is nowhere near as impressive. Filled with a great deal of buoyant gas, Blitzep is capable of faster flight than Beeloon due to its drill-like airscrew stinger, though it still isn't very good for combat. The tiny mouth parts are also ill-equipped for biting, though more than sufficient for eating nectar that all members of the hive produce in turn. The more durable carapace of the Blitzep, coupled with an increased capacity for hauling "pollen bombs" makes it a more formidable, if somewhat cumbersome, Pokémon. Normally, Beeloon hives will have one or two Blitzeps who drift freely among the resting Beeloons while they're floating atop their stalks of grass, keeping watch over their smaller kin with their sharp, wide-ranging eyes.
Both Pokémon are incredibly popular among local trainers and farmers alike, as the honey produced by Beeloons promotes the healing of soil and grasses, while Blitzep's honey is a powerful medicative agent used in local first aid. The fuzzy cuteness and watchful protectiveness of the two Pokémon has also earned them a heartwarming reputation with the children of Grabenfeld, with Beeloons appearing frequently as first-time trainer pets.
Wherever the Beeloon family of Pokémon can be found, life can be found healing and growing in Grabenfeld. Truly, they are a sign of changing times and the power of nature to persevere.
