Once upon a time everyone knew the name of a little shop down a quiet back street, selling hand-crafted clever machines which could move as though they were alive. Then the war came, the door of the shop was locked, and the owner, some clothes and tools in their suitcase, went to where their skills were needed. The war didn't spare them, neither their hands nor their heart, which was filled with horror and sadness. They haven't returned to their cosy little shop, thinking the one returning won't be the one who had left, and the life lived there deserve to stay undarkened by that new presence. They still, howewer, liked now and then to send mechanical birds flying and watch them with a bittersweet smile.
