Thee Olde Stone Cutter (name lost to time) was apparently a true innovator in Boston as far as the art of stonecarving. Before him, stones were just lettered. Joseph Lamson & William Mumford were his proteges, and they went on to innovate the art further. Safe to say a lot of "classic" gravestone icongraphy in the NE US started with him.
