In 1980 I was still publishing fanzines the hard way ... using a hand cranked mimeography machine, with pasty ink and absorbent rag paper, and mailing the copies to favoured fans, at my own expense. We old time fans have is soft now, and mostly publish fanzines now that are entirely virtual, and distributed by email or on internet sites. The old ways were a hell of a long of fun, and I do miss them abstractly. But I would never go back to them, any more than I'd go back to handwriting 12 page letters ... although I've done that, too. For one of my zines, I wanted to create a make-believe 45 rpm single from an album called Ice Water. It was supposedly recorded by Saara Mar in 1980, and was a mixture of pop music and extraterrestrial numbers. Of course, there was no such record. I cut disks out of black paper, and made a jacket sleeve with glue, then tucked on such construct in every issue of my next zine. This is the record label art. The sleeve art was posted previously.
