For some reason, this makes me think of Transmetropolitan, the American Graphic novel series.

They are either nearing, or post-singularity technology. And some people, the Foglets, upload their minds to clouds of nanites, living as immortal clouds that can take shape.

I don't think living as a cloud would work. But, someday, I think we'll invent Slimegirls, haha. Something like the Liquid Metal Terminator from the movies, only with mind-uploading.

She strikes me as a creature mimicking the appearance of what she's seeing in the same way a crow might repeat human speech. Her understanding of the would is a step-and-a-half removed from our own, but she's still doing it out of intrinsic curiosity~
