Very. Old. Art.
Somewhere in the mid 90's I did this while at high school in science class. I was fast back then, and it was during those days that I rarely used a pencil of any kind to pre-sketch what I wanted to draw. I would just grab a felt tip pen or some kind of heavy inking ballpoint pen (my fave was the Pilot G2 with the replaceable ink sticks) and go for it. I think these days I've forgotten how to really do that..
That same day I gave the science teacher of that class this picture. That was about 16 or 17 years ago. He sent me a scan of it, and the memories came rushing back..

Heh, thanks. I tend not to when I use a ballpoint pen, I only presketch if it's something 'official' or if I really have no idea what I want to do. That was a long time ago, but I still do it these days when I get bored enough..
The following vid links are actually from almost exactly a year ago of inking without pre-drawing.

You inked that... without sketching it out first? *whistles* You have... really, really gotten my respect as an artist. May I humbly say that you are actually one of the few artist that I do look up to in terms of motivation to try and make my own ability to draw beyond that of a three-year-old with massive head trauma? Because it is truth. I would really love to see you pick the skill of speed inking without first sketching, as this picture is pretty goddamn awesome, and very different from your work now. To be honest, when I first saw it, I did a double-take when I saw your name under it.
