About the Vicuna

A vicuna is a relative of the llama, the ancestor of the domestic alpaca. It may be one of the less "obscure" animals used in the book... but how could I resist? Llamas are just pure win!

She wears the patterns of the Inca, the people native to the Andes mountains where llamas come from. The vicuna are known for their soft wool, which is expensive because the animal can only be sheared once every three years.

In Incan culture, clothing made out of vicuna wool was reserved only for royalty.

The vicuna is the national animal of Peru and appears on the Peru coat of arms.
