Before the Earth was formed the genderless Creator God, named Nana-Buluku by the Fon people of Dahomey, created a companion dragon called Aido Hwedo who was both male and female.
It was a dragon able to move with ease between Heaven and Earth who carried the Creator in its mouth.
They travelled together into the physical realms to create the world as we know it. http://www.squidoo.com/aido
This is an interpretation and depiction of the Aido Hwedo of which
bloodhoundomega created the concept and lineart and I did the colouring.
Colouring this was one of the biggest fights I've ever had with pictures and took me five days. Beginning with the paper which didn't like my rough method of colouring, you first could see every single brush stroke on the delicate background. The dryer the brush of course, the more visible the strokes, so I actually had to use a lot of more water which caused the original lines to blend into the paint, making them nearly invisible.
After drying I carefully redrew the original lines with a darker pencil and planned to paint the background using the airbrush. It started spitting even though we cleaned it thoroughly using really hard chemicals and brushes. >>
After painting several hours, it lead to this result.
I used the airbrush once more with, of course spitting issues again (never going to use that type of acrylic ink again) and fixed the big splatter that the airbrish left on the dragon's face. x)
I was too lazy painting scars on the actual sky so I simply interpreted the Aido's ability to wander between sky and eart simply by painting the stars directly on its back.
Here are some photos of the original because the iridescent paint I used to colour the Aido's scales with always gives a different colour tone depending how much you tilt it. :]

Again, it was a collaborative work:

It's a shame how much detail is lost in the transfer to computer. The last photo link is my favorite, that shift from pinks to than warm tan must be amazing to watch happen while holding it and is something that can never be reproduced in digital work efficiently. Wonderful work your application of knowledge in this field has truly served you well and it shows. ^_^
Hrmm... ok... the "more decent" comment ended up comming _way_ later than anticipated. XD
Even if I still can't shake off the fuiling of guilt completely, the happyness about the result of our joinedventure surmounts.
This has turned out amazing in so many different ways and I am overwhelmed by what you made out of my sketch. I know what I would have done out of it and while surely it wouldn't have been bad, your version manages to shine through the power of colour and light and öave a far greater impression that way.
Simply amazing and I hope, not our last collaboration. *hugs*
