How sweet. This just makes me want to herald back to a scene from near the beginning of this series.
On page 14 of Part 1, right after Vlagg had defeated Gervic, the exchange of the guards who were helping the injured Vlagg went as followed.
Soldier 1: Someone get the medic!
Soldier 2: Hey - what should we do with him?
Soldier 3: Who cares, man! He's dying anyway. Just come and lend me a hand."
Of course Vlagg was busy getting treated for his own injuries, but I wouldn't be surprised if Vlagg regrets not intervening in that moment, ensuring a medic saw to Gervic's wounds and had him imprisoned properly. Instead, he left him to bleed out.. which led to him to being enslaved by a depraved Bob. I wonder how much of Vlagg's friendly and compassionate attitude towards Gervic stems from guilt. His invasion of the castle was the spark that lead to a lot of these horrible things happening to Gervic. I hope we get to see Vlagg grappling with some of that in the future. In these past few pages, Vlagg has obviously expressed admiration for Gervic, but I think it is -way- more than just that.

My pleasure c:
I also think it's also perfectly normal for Vlagg to want to hide that guilt in this very moment too. As a commander, you're not suppose to second guess yourself. Doubting yourself can not only be politically disadvantageous, it can be lethal in certain circumstances. In this moment, he wants to build up Gervic's confidence and self worth, not distract from that conversation by making it about himself and his guilt. I imagine Vlagg has gotten good at suppressing the urge to listen to his guilt, but I imagine a voice is in the back of his head has been saying things like:
"Why didn't I call a medic for him? I left him to die."
"If I had just been strong enough to capture Gervic, I could of protected him."
"My soldiers abused him. I'm their commanding officer. Their actions are my responsibility."
"I've been making him work with -and- for the very people who abused him."
"I could of changed all of this and didn't... if I had just called a medic for him..."
And I imagine that voice is getting louder and louder the closer he gets to Gervic emotionally. A post-coitus emotional catharsis sounds about right.
Just my two cents. <3

If you are even considering suicide please think of the problems that It will create for your family even if you think literally none will care that absolutely not true and out of over 3 billion people, there will at least be a hand full of people who still care and even if ending it will end YOUR pain and suffering and/or heartbreak think of the hell that you will cause your family. Unlike in this comic you won't have a dragon to save you from this desperate measure.
I know this was posted two years ago, but this is the kind of relationship building that I look for in stories. Not only that, watching Gervic slowly heal bit by bit from such a life changing trauma feels so real. Those things never really go away, but they can get manageable with time,
