Peeew… here’s a new picture I’ve done for the “G.D.A. Universe” (German Dragon Army) of my friend dracenmarx.
Medical Leutnant Soleil del Sol and Feldwebel Doctor Daniel Lorenz on their way through the desert. Of course, Lorenz managed to drive over the only stone within 100 miles… bad luck! Now he has to change the tire. ^^
This picture has been a tough job, because I’m still “afraid” to draw uniforms and cars. And this jeep (called “Wolf”, manufactured by MERCEDES) has been the greatest challenge ever!

My only peeve may seem a bit weird but this isn't a Jeep. Jeep is a make/company, not a model/car type. I know everyone, everywhere uses "Jeep" to describe any somewhat boxy, usually open-topped offroad vehicle that's not a Humvee, and I'm not asking you, or anyone, to stop, but I just thought this was a good opportunity to just nitpick about the overuse of "Jeep" as a generic term.
y'know, unless it's a perspective thing, the only problems i see with this picture is the car's inability to sink, especially on that jack, and the asymmetrical headlights that make it look kinda... idunno, lop-sided.
The uniforms are done well; the camo pattern and the way that it interacts with folds and rolls in the cloth is great.
The axel he took the wheel off is kinda wonky, but I'm not familiar with the model. also, you forgot the pins! the bolts protruding from the bit that holds the wheel. (Sizes of the hole radius on each doesn't match as well.) Then there's things in there like tie rods, suspension, the joints that allow steering, etc.

Yes, I saw that the right frontal light of that jeep is not symmetrical to the other one. I could say now "Aww, that is ok... they manufactured the car themselves, har har!" But that'd be a lie. ^^ No, you are right... I did plenty mistakes here. But a picture is never "perfect"... everything can be improved and I still want to improve myself, as well.
The axel was a late addition... I was thinking "Oops, WHAT did he use to get the wheel off???" And then I added this quickly. It's not a real model and the whole universe is fantasy. ^^
AAAAND the pins: Lorenz got the pins in his pocket!! You usually do that in the desert... or you lose them in the sand. Got it?
But I guess... you're now getting into too much detail. Are you a mechanic? I guess you are. That would explain it all. Hehehe, I still have to learn more about cars and similar vehicles.
THANK YOU VERY, VERY much for the great comment and the considerate words. You really put a lot of consideration and effort into your comment. I appreciate that.

Nope, don't know a damn thing about cars, other than how to put the gas in, refill the wiper fluid, and change a tire. I've done a lot of tire changing in my time... Normally, the thing behind the rim, or metal part of the wheel, is a large-ish drum or disk; some heavy, circular slab of metal, with threaded bolts hard-welded into its facing, to put the wheel on. I assumed the nuts were in his pocket, always the best practice in any area where they could get lost easily, like in sand. (also, forgive the double entendre...)

Not saying it's done wrong, as it IS a fictional thing, just that there's usually a whole lot more going on in a wheel well. That first one is a much better example, as it shows the steering hinge thingy.
Very clever use of shadows, for someone just winging it. they obscure the mechanisms that may or may not be further back.

Ya know what? If I would have taken more care into the mechanics of the car, I might have added the break and any details here. :) Your links would have been soooo helpful, really. Thanks, anyway. ^^
But you see... I so much HATE to draw cars... I was happy, when the cabin and outline was done! XD SO, it's still a car... but thanks for telling me about the details. Yeah... I should have added the break... this "dish" thing.
And sure... my shading was supposed to get me "off the hook", hehehe.
On the other hand... my photo reference did not show any more details around the wheel. But you are right, I should have considered all the little things behind the wheel.
Ow, btw... I don't take your comment as "negative critique" to my artwork in any way!! I really ENJOY reading your comment. After all, you took your time writing and investigating for it. I really appreciate that.

pfft. not like i have anything else to do. You're welcome, I suppose, though I'm not sure what I'm being so profusely worshipped for here.
It's not that I put a whole lot of thought into the comment, other than how carefully I tried to word it. I didn't wanna sound offensive, yet at the same time convey the "But... ya done fucked up." the best way I could think of is to explain what, how, and why I felt the picture was wrong, and show what the real stuff looks like, and do so as diplomatically as possible, given the sleep depravation, boredom-induced nonchalance, and whatever else was going through my head. more or less went with this idea.

Maybe, you're just not used to take a compliment... I dunno. At least, I just appreciate people who write a little bit more than just "Gwaah, great" or "Wooooow, awesooooooooooome"! (of course, I like every kind of comment)
Though... that link you've shown me here pretty much sums it up!!
Thanks for giving me some of your time. ^^

Mercedes Benz G500 FTW! XD Now, I could bug you about the "anatomy" of the vehicle, but not everyone is into cars, so I'll just leave it be, it still looks great :D And I love the expression on Del Sol's face. They typical expression you would get when you end up getting a flat in the middle of no-where. I also have a pretty good idea what he's saying in his head XD
Awesome work Reptile, this looks great. Also love that licence plate ^.=.~

It's both counterproductive and unstable to have a passenger in a vehicle while using a simple lifting jack like that to fix a flat tire (tyre). If they move, shifting the center of gravity even a little, the vehicle can wobble on the jack, coming off it and crushing the person under the car, or whose arms are in the wheel well trying to work on fixing the situation. UNSAFE ILLUSTRATION - DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS IN YOUR OWN SANDLOT!
YOU are so much right... ^^ BUT tell that to Soleil!! He was ordered to get out and what did he say? "I outrank you! Now, get your ass out and fix it!"
And yepp... the car could really fall or at least sink down now. ^^ DANGEROUS...
And thanks for your warning, hehehehe.... I must've missed that!

As I was looking at the picture, I couldn't help but to notice a couple of things. But then, as I started reading some conversations posted underneath, they've already been addressed. :P ... Great work Patrick, I love how it turned out. Fortunately, I have not yet had to change a tire, but when the time finally does come, I can only imagine that it's going to be on the side of a crooked shoulder and -45 degrees xD. Soleil del Sol, looks none too pleased, but then again. The task would go faster if he got out and helped. Very nicely done on the structure of the car and the clothing (besides the brake thing ;) )
Heeey, thank you very much! ^_____^
As a matter of fact, I used a real German car for reference.
Say... I'm sure you know me over DJ, eh? Or through my artworks of/with him.... yeah. :3
That's cool.
Also, thanks a lot for the recent favourites!
Glad you like my art. ^^
Take care and be well.
