"A fully realized Omni is often likened to deity, where it is easier to list what they cannot do rather than try to list everything they can."
The Omni are an anchor to their kin. A race of dragons descended from them, the Pr'ryndrai, depend upon their continued existence to keep from fading into obscurity, a shadow of what they once were.
Only those directly descended from an Omni are capable of having another rise out of their bloodline, being just four generations removed dilutes the ancestry enough that it becomes impossible. Each generation after suffers a very slow, though observable, decrease in the strength in their supernatural powers and abilities. Stranger breeds become rarer, more exotic powers become unheard of, and the once universal presence of dragons across even unknown worlds becomes little more than legend. It takes millennia for the lack of any living Omni to begin severely impacting dragonkind itself, but it has been more than a millennia since the last known Omni was confirmed killed. A millennia of time that the bloodline of the Omni has all but vanished from dragonkind, a bloodline and legacy that now only Vraeryn has the power to start with his chosen mate.
Materializing seemingly out of nowhere from the perspective of dragons that found him, Vraeryn was hardly two decades of age and, even almost two centuries later, is still far from being counted among those long-dead fully realized Omni who were killed with ages reaching into the thousands. He is vulnerable, powerful in having control of nearly any material, energy or "element" but weak that his still dormant true splendor has yet to awaken. He is close, he can tell- there are days he can feel the inner depths of his soul sparking like the thunderclouds of a coming storm. Yet 'close' never changed anything, until it is tangible his full awakening may as well be centuries off.
He is also the last of his kind. His death could be catastrophic to the Pr'ryndrai dragons' already fading presence, and until he grows old enough to awaken his power fully and truly, there is no guarantee that death cannot happen. His kin of dragons do not age, and he is no exception, but it is only a matter of a time before Vraeryn meets a rival keen to dethrone him before he surpasses all competition. A rival that may be selfish enough to try and kill Vraeryn with no regard to the ramifications to his own kind. Time cannot kill a dragon, but claiming total immortality is a deadly arrogance.
Vraeryn must take care not to fall to the same fate that befell those before him.
-A little quote I made some time back: "Don't like my kind? Fair enough. You'll have nothing to fear from me. Made it your mission to destroy us or those like us? Then I will obliterate you, or die trying. I may fight for the survival of nearly any race, none deserve extinction. Yet take care, I am ultimately a dragon. Start a war with my kind, and I will take a side.
"I think I need not tell you which one."
Some notes that don't fit the reference:
-Purple spikes on rear leg and neck are amethyst-like structures. Hard, crystalline and translucent. When Vraeryn activates his glow, they generate a soft glow of their own while also refracting the green from his green bioluminescence.
-Circular purple spots on horns are also these amethyst-like structures and behave much in the same way.
-Purple areas do not generate any light, except where the purple remains on his glow version on the right.
-Scaled plates are coated in a reflective sheen that gleams when light hits it, especially if freshly polished.
-Approximately 29-30 meters from edge of snout to tip of tail when in a relaxed stance as depicted on reference. Wingspan is approximately 46-47 meters.
-Capable of 'walking' on his wing-wrists, allowing Vraeryn short term capability to carry objects in his two front claws with greater ease.
My brand new reference! I have been so excited for this for months, every update the artist sent me only made me more impatient for the next!
I liked the old design, but so much felt missing. This is the closest I've ever felt to my original vision for this design easily in a decade! Hopefully it is the final overhaul too, hah.
Breed name Omni is just a placeholder, I will replace it with something a little more original when I develop my world a little further and have a suitable replacement.
This wonderful reference is built, yet again, by the artist Unravel.
