Rated G for general audiences for now. But subsequent chapters will be rated M for Mature for horror, gore, and tragedy.
It’s been 8 months since the virus wiped out the population of the planet. My boyfriend and I managed to survive by hiding out at his house. When we saw the outside world for the first time 3 weeks ago, we weren’t prepared for the dead coming back to life. They roam the cities where once civilization thrived. We had to leave the city for the possible safety of the countryside. But, I would soon come to learn, that in this world, there’s no such thing as safety anymore. We knew how to survive the wilderness. We also learned that thankfully the undead died the same way they do in the movies. We thought we would be able to survive the apocalypse together. But we were young, optimistic, and immaturely naive. Our travels have taken us to a rural town where we decided to search for food.
“Uggh!!! Soooo hungry!!!” Groaned Dupe, my boyfriend, a grayish brown dog fox hybrid as we just searched a grocery store that turned out to have already been emptied out by looters.
“Well unfortunately, there were a bunch of looters when this shit hit the fan.” I replied as I was reading the map of the town. I suddenly start to get hopeful again. “Says here there’s a food packing plant down the road from here. Maybe the looters left something behind there?” I suggested optimistically.
“I love your optimism, Lobos. But how do you know there won’t be any walkers there?” Dupe argued.
I rolled my eyes as I replied: “If we see any zombies, we’ll move on.”
We walked for another hour before reaching the plant. It looked more like a barn or warehouse. We both perked our canine ears up while looking and listening for the dead. “The coast seems clear.” I whispered. “But let’s sneak in quietly anyway.” I said.
“Got it!” Dupe whispered back before stopping me by grabbing my shoulder. “And... let’s not take too long, mi amore, I’m starving.” He added as we chuckled and kissed.
“Don’t worry, babe.” I replied, still chuckling. “We won’t. In fact, if we strike gold, we’ll celebrate with a romantic dinner under the stars tonight.” I declared, making us both laugh before we finally got serious and got our guns ready before entered the dark building, blissfully unaware of the ambush waiting for us inside.
