First personal story after AGES of having some writer's block for my own stuff, not having a siiiingle new Orreian tale to tell, but I got a new one! Had the idea for having a sick day for Kajex and show what happens when he loses control of his powers.
And yes, it is now canon that Naomi is scared of thunder.
It was a dark, cloudy, late Monday morning for Naomi. She was currently at the local pharmacy picking up some cold medicine, several boxes of tissues, cough drops, and the like while holding her phone against her ear with her shoulder in a bit of a panic.
“Y-Yeah Yuki,” Naomi stuttered as she fished for her wallet, “Kajex is calling in sick today.” “And he was barely able to send you a text right?” Yuki replied over the phone. “Yeah,” Naomi replied as she pulled out her card, “So I’m just calling in for him.”
Naomi got all of her stuff bagged up before she exited the pharmacy in a bit of a rush.
“Glad you told me,’ Yuki said with a sigh, “I’ll have to move our little meeting to a later date unfortunately.”
Naomi’s cheeks turned a bright red when she thought a little about what Yuki meant by that little quip of hers.
“Wh-What kind of meeting?!” Naomi asked in a flustered tone as she picked up her pace. “It’s nothing for you to worry about,” Yuki teasingly replied, “But for now I gotta go. Bye.” “W-Wai-” Naomi tried to say before Yuki hung up.
Naomi awkwardly pocketed her phone as she tried to run at top speed.
“I'll ask him about it later!” she thought as she made a turn much to several bystanders’ confusion, “Kajex needs the medicine before he’s too small to drink it!”
She booked it at top speed as she held the medicine bag close, making sure to not drop it the entire way over.
Twenty minutes later…
Naomi was huffing and panting as she finally arrived at Kajex’s apartment complex and began to climb up the stairs, clearly winded from her run.
“How many times do I miss that one turn?” she huffed as she arrived at the second floor, “That’s the 5th time this month I space out an obvious shortcut.”
She arrived at Kajex’s apartment and knocked on the door before trying to open it, finding that he accidentally left the door locked.
“Good thing you gave me a spare key Kajex!” Naomi exclaimed as she pulled out her key, “I’m coming in!”
She unlocked the door before slowly stepping inside. Kajex’s entire apartment looked like a train wreck and yet seems like it hadn’t been touched all day.
“He reeeeally needs to clean up more often,” she sighed before looking all around, “Kajex? Are you in your room?!”
She heard a cute, squeaky sneeze in a room down the hall as she asked that question.
“Y-Yes!” a smol, nasally Kajex voice echoed, “Pl-Please hurry Naomi!”
Naomi traversed the clothing-covered hallway like a minefield before she arrived at Kajex's bedroom door and slowly began to open the door.
“You okay Kajex?” Naomi asked as she stepped inside, “You sounded a bit squeaky.”
She was clearly able to see a Kajex about a third of his normal size sitting in the middle of the bed, surrounded by empty boxes and wadded up tissues, looking like he’s gone through the grimest timeline ever conceived.
“Aw Kajex!” Naomi exclaimed in a concerned tone, “Did I take too long to get here?” “N-No,” Kajex sniffled as Naomi shuffled around her bag, “Just feeling like complete gar- A-CHOO!!!”
Kajex shrunk a few inches after he sneezed, making Naomi look at Kajex with her more motherly attitude.
“D’awww,” Naomi coddled as she sat on the edge of the bed, “You poor little Lucario.”
She gave Kajex a fresh box of issues as she opened up the medicine bottle and began to pour a dose, Kajex quickly blowing his nose before he sneezed again.
“S-Sorry you have to spend your day with a sick me Naomi,” Kajex sniffled as Naomi set the medicine bottle down, “I hate it when I get sick.” “Oh don’t worry about it silly,” Naomi smiled as she held the medicine dose in the air, “It’s better than going to work today.”
She tried to give Kajex the medicine, but he sneezed again, making him shrink a few more inches before she tried to give it to Kajex again.
“I-If you say so,” Kajex stuttered as he shakily took the medicine from her hand, “I-I’m probably gonna end up too small to see by the time you leave.” “I’m off until you’re all better silly!” Naomi exclaimed, “You take priority!”
Kajex slowly drank the medicine before shuddering like he just got a chill up his spine.
“Th-Thank you Naomi,” Kajex said as he forced a soft smile, “Y-You know I’d d-do the same for you too.” “D’awwww,” Naomi smiled as she took the medicine cup away from Kajex, “You're such a sweetheart Kajex!” “S-Says you!” Kajex replied.
She then ruffled Kajex’s head in response to his cuteness, his tail beginning to lightly wag like a little puppy.
“Well, someone’s my little puppy as well,” Naomi chuckled as she saw Kajex blow his nose again, “You can’t top that!”
Kajex’s cheeks grew flustered at the idea as Naomi continued her cute, playful giggling.
“A-And you're my precious, absolutely wonderful shao!” Kajex stammered followed by a light cough, “Y-You can never beat that!”
Naomi pulled out a cough drop and put it in Kajex’s mouth to help his throat.
“Okay, you got meeee,” Naomi smirked with a teasy eye roll, “But you know that I’ll just give you twice the cuddles when you’re done recovering.” “O-Oh boy,” Kajex stammered as his cheeks turned red, “Wh-Why do I feel nervous?”
Kajex sniffled to avoid another sneeze as Naomi decided to keep Kajex guessing for a bit longer.
“Because you’ll be my little plushy for a whoooole day,” Naomi giggled as Kajex stiffened up like a plank of wood, “Gonna watch scary movies and be all snuggly.”
Kajex’s fur turned a fiery red after he blew his nose again, clearly thinking about the kind of date that’d end up being.
“D-Don’t make me all flustered when I’m sick!” Kajex stammered as he felt his body tense up. “Okaaay I’ll stop,” Naomi replied, “I think you have enough of a picture of it in your mind for now.”
Kajex sniffled some more as he clenched his sheets closely, getting a bit of a cold sweat as he laid back down.
“What’s wrong?” Naomi asked in a motherly tone as Kajex wiped some sweat off of his forehead. “J-Just a cold sweat Naomi,” Kajex sniffled in response, “N-Nothing to worry about.”
She leaned over and gave Kajex a quick smooch on the forehead before rubbing his ear, making the pup feel all warm inside.
“Now is there anything I can get you real quick?” Naomi asked with a bright smile. “C-Can I get some soup please?” Kajex sniffled, “I-I actually haven’t eaten all day.”
Naomi gave Kajex a little head pat before she began to stand back up.
“I’ll go ahead and make you some soup then,” she smiled as she stood up, “Just squeak if you need anything from me.” “H-Haha,” Kajex sniffled sarcastically, “Very fun- ACHOO!!!”
Kajex shrunk a few more inches after his sneeze, making Naomi giggle softly as she walked over to the door.
“Sit tight now,” she giggled as she stepped outside, making sure to leave the door open. “Th-That’s about all I can do,” Kajex sniffled.
Naomi walked all the way down to the kitchen and began to examine Kajex’s cupboards, looking for his soup cans so she could cook up a can or two.
“Now if I were my little pup,” Naomi thought to herself as she checked a cupboard filled with baking ingredients, “Where would I put my soup supply?”
Naomi checked cupboard after cupboard, one with the dishes, one with the pots and pans (which she indeed took one to cook the soup with) and another with his breakfast foods, all building up until she finally found his lunch and dinner cupboard with a few cans of chicken noodle soup resting inside.
“Biiiingo!” she exclaimed as she snatched two cans out of the cupboard, “Took me long enough!”
She brought the cans to the counter and pulled out a can opener from a nearby drawer, slowly tearing open the lids and pouring them into the pot slowly.
“Soup’s on in about 20 minutes Kajex!” Naomi exclaimed as she began to stir it. “O-Okaaay,” Kajex’s squeaky, nasally voice echoed.
Naomi began to hum and whistle as she cooked up the food, leaving Kajex all alone in his cozy, oversized bed.
15 minutes later…
Naomi was still in the kitchen cooking the soup with a whistle in her voice now while Kajex still sat there covered in tissues and still getting a chill up his little spine.
“H-How much longer?” Kajex sniffled as he clenched his almost mattress sized pillow. “Just a feeeeew more minutes!” Naomi exclaimed back, “Then I’ll bring you a small bowl of it!”
Kajex reached for another tissue as he felt another sneeze bubble up within his sinuses.
“A-A…” Kajex began as he pulled the tissue against his nose, “ACHOO!!!”
Kajex let out a HEARTY sneeze into that tissue and shrunk down to a foot tall, his head spinning and his chest hurting just from how powerful that sneeze was and it definitely caught Naomi off guard when she heard it.
“Kajex?!” Naomi said in a slight panic, “What kind of sneeze was THAT?!” “A-A really painful one,” Kajex whimpered in pain, “O-Ouch…”
Naomi turned off the stove and checked in on Kajex to see him rubbing his chest and throat out of pain.
“Oh my god Kajex are you okay?!” Naomi exclaimed as she rushed over to his side. “I-I’m fine,” Kajex groaned, “I-It was just a lot more powerful than usual.”
Naomi gave Kajex a gentle back rub to help ease the pain inflicted by the sneeze a little, making Kajex’s tiny tail wag a little more as well.
“I just wish we could’ve avoided that,” Naomi said in a somber, concerned tone, “That shrunk you all the way down to a foot tall already.” “I-I’ll be fine,” Kajex sniffled as he looked up at Naomi, “C-Can I just get some food before I’m the size of a spoon though please?”
Naomi blushed softly as she stood back up and scooted back to the kitchen to get Kajex a small bowl for him ASAP.
“O-One moment and you’ll have some soup!” Naomi exclaimed as she fished around the kitchen for a bowl.
After just a minute or so of Kajex awkwardly watching as Naomi tried to figure out where everything was in the cupboards again before she finally pulled out a small, blue bowl seemingly there just for sick days.
“Aaaaaand here we go!” Naomi exclaimed as she scooped a half serving of soup out of the put with a ladle, “Dinner’s on!”
She carefully brought the bowl and a small spoon into Kajex’s room, Kajex now finally beginning to ease up after that nasty sneeze he had earlier.
“Eat up Kajex,” Naomi smiled softly as she gave Kajex his bowl, “Before you become too small to hold your spoon.”
Kajex shakily reached out for the bowl and spoon before taking them into his hands before setting them down on a neighboring nightstand.
“O-One moment,” Kajex stuttered as he shook off some shivers and stood on the bed to use the nightstand as a table, “I-I needed to move a little.”
Kajex shakily took a spoonful of soup and blew on it until it cooled down before swallowing it whole, thankful for it’s warmth to fill his insides as Naomi sat on the foot of the bed.
“T-Tastes so good,” Kajex sniffled as he scooped up another bite, “Th-Thank you Naomi.” “It’s nothing at all,” Naomi smiled as Kajex began to blow on the spoon again, “Anything for you.”
Kajex proceeded to take bite after bite of soup, being extra cautious to not drop his spoon while Naomi watched carefully, seeing Kajex’s legs already grow weak from excessive standing while a light, pitter patter sound tapped against the window.
“Here Kajex,” Naomi began as she stood up and had Kajex sit back down, “Let me feed you. You can hardly stand.” “H-Huh?” Kajex stammered as his legs shook even as he sat down.
Naomi decided to pick up the roughly half empty bowl and gave a new spoonful a quick blow and held the spoon towards Kajex.
“I-I’m an adult N-Naomi,” Kajex stammered as she held the spoon towards Kajex’s mouth, “I-I don’t need to be treated like I’m a year old.” “But you’re all shaky and weak right now,” Naomi replied as she held the spoon closer to Kajex, “And I won’t tell anyone. Pleeeease?”
Kajex coughed a little as he thought about upholding his dignity until his stomach let out a soft growl, making him confirm his decision,
“I get to blow on the soup, deal?” Kajex groaned as Naomi’s ears went aflutter. “It’s a deal!” Naomi smiled bright as Kajex took a bite of the soup.
The two then began a cycle of Naomi scooping, followed by Kajex blowing and eating the soup for a good while as the pitter patter sound grew louder and louder, definitely becoming a bit of an issue as Kajex finished his bowl.
“What’s with that sound?” Naomi asked as she looked out the window, “It’s getting to be a bit-”
Naomi JUMPED when she looked out the window as an explosion of thunder borderline shook the apartment, making her let out a soft whimper as she nearly dropped the bowl onto the floor.
“A-A storm?!” Naomi squeaked as she tried to hold her composure. “There was a stormy forecast today,” Kajex sniffled as Naomi shivered, “A-Are you scared of thunder?”
Naomi nodded a yes in a rapid motion as the rain began to pour down on the city like a torrent.
“O-Only the really bad ones,” Naomi shakily nodded, “I-I swear though!”
Naomi shook it off and walked back into the kitchen to put Kajex’s bowl in the sink and grab her own serving just to help calm her nerves while Kajex thought about the new fact he had just learned.
“The more you know,” Kajex sniffled before he blew his nose again.
Meanwhile with Naomi, she was shaking as she scooped a much larger bowl full of slightly cooled soup, watching the rain completely drench Kajex’s balcony and beyond, the sounds growing stronger by the second.
“G-Geez it’s storming a lot out there,” Naomi thought as she checked the time, “A-And storms in Orrei last for a while…”
The time was 1:33pm and Naomi had no umbrella or coat to wear through the rain and she didn’t wanna get sick when she goes back to work the next day.
“Hey Kajex?” Naomi asked as she slid back into Kajex’s room with her bowl. “Y-Yeah Naomi,” Kajex replied as he took another cough drop to ease his throat, “Wh-What is it?”
Naomi took a seat on the bed beside Kajex as he looked at her mess with her soup.
“Mind if I spend the night here?” she asked awkwardly as Kajex blew his nose again. “Y-Yeah of course you can,” Kajex sniffled before blowing his nose again, “M-My couch is always free.”
Naomi resisted the urge to get all giddy over Kajex’s reply, but chose to have some soup to avoid spilling it all over the carpet when the next wave of thunder strikes.
“Thank you Kajex!” Naomi exclaimed before she began to devour her soup. “N-No problem at all,” Kajex blushed as he clenched his sheets again.
Naomi finished her food in mere minutes compared to Kajex as he felt more cold sweats trickle down his spine.
“Guess I’ll be taking care of you all day today,” Naomi remarked as she realized that little detail. “I-I’d be very thankful if you could,” Kajex sniffled in response.
Naomi gave Kajex a smile and a soft pet as her response.
“I’d be happy to do so,” she smiled as she smooched his cheek softly, “But I’ll go ahead and at least make your living room traversable real quick for now.” “Y-You don’t have to do that for me,” Kajex sniffled as he felt his insides grow icky.
Naomi stood up and gave him another pet before she went to the door and picked up a shirt in the hallway.
“You can just buy me a smoothie from Fresh Berries as payment for this,” Naomi teased as she grabbed another shirt, “Deal?” “D-Deal,” Kajex replied with another nose blow.
Naomi left the room and began to pick up all the garbage and items left strewn about the living room.
A few hours later…
After a decent amount of sweating, cleaning, and after a few thunder induced heart attacks and check ins in Kajex, Naomi managed to clean up Kajex’s living room to make it at least bearable to walk through. She was now lying on the couch breathing a sigh of relief.
“Finally finished,” Naomi huffed as the skies outside turned darker, “May wanna ask for two smoothies after that.”
The rain began to pour even harder as she caught her breath. She was starting to fear another explosion of thunder.
“H-Hey Naomi?” Kajex nasally squeaked from his room, “A-Are you done?” “Yes I aaaam,” Naomi replied, “Just give me a minute before I head ba-”
Naomi was cut off by another explosion of lightning, but this time she couldn’t keep herself under control and DARTED straight into Kajex’s room and scooped up the little Lucario and nuzzling him against her cheek.
“Make the bad thunder go away please please please!” Naomi panicked as Kajex wheezed from the sudden nuzzles. “G-Gah!” Kajex coughed into his elbow as Naomi squeezed him, “I-I can hardly breathe like this Naomi!”
Naomi lost herself to fear as Kajex was at the mercy of her grip and on the verge of sneezing without a tissue in his hand.
“N-Naomi,”Kajex said as she began to inhale for a sneeze, “I-I’m gonna sne- ACHOO!!!”
Naomi jumped as Kajex sneezed into his elbow and shrunk a few inches, now unable to really hold anything at his roughly 8 inch tall stature.
“O-Oh my bad Kajex!” Naomi replied as she set him down, “Th-Thunder is just really scary...”
Kajex sniffled and blew his nose into a tissue before looking up at Naomi and her somber blue eyes.
“J-Just bring a tissue box and I can be on the couch with you,” Kajex sniffled before he blew his nose again, “J-Just to help you a bit.”
Naomi nodded eagerly and dragged Kajex and his tissues with her to the couch instantly. The cool rain wrapped around him like a mist and it felt oddly refreshing to him.
“Sorry to have to drag you out of bed like this when you’re sick,” Naomi whimpered under her breath. “I-I needed to get out of my room for a bit anyways.”
Naomi gave him a soft smile with her ears very slightly drooped as Kajex looked at the balcony door window, watching the rain fall off of the roof like it was a waterfall.
“What are you looking at?” Naomi asked curiously as she followed his eyes.
She looked at the rainfall as it reflected off of her eyes, allowing herself to ease up slightly as the rain itself began to feel therapeutic to her.
“As much as I hate thunder…” Naomi began as she began to pet the sick pup continuously, “... nothing can beat the sound of raindrops against the window.”
Kajex’s tail began to slowly sway as he held a torso sized tissue to his nose and blew yet again, avoiding to let a single drop of snot fall onto his beloved.
“And this view can’t be beat,” Kajex remarked as the cool air washed over him again.” “Especially when it’s with you Kajex,” Naomi smiled in response. “You stole my line,” Kajex scoffed in response.
Kajex and Naomi began to sit there for a while, just coddling against each other as the rain took their minds in it’s calming embrace...

Kajex shrunk a few inches after he sneezed, making Naomi look at Kajex with her more motherly attitude.
“D’awww,” Naomi coddled as she sat on the edge of the bed, “You poor little Lucario.”

Naomi was still in the kitchen cooking the soup with a whistle in her voice now while Kajex still sat there covered in tissues and still getting a chill up his little spine.
