Kaiju Kid
Real Name: Yukio Nakayama
Gender: Male
Species: Mutated Formosan Rock Macaque
Occupation: Research Assistant & Superhero
Affiliations: Tomorrow Team, Japanese Hero Coalition, Kaiju Research Team
Background: Yukio Nakayama had something of a complicated childhood. During his early life, he was diagnosed with a terminal disease which most doctors projected that he wouldn’t live past his teens. His father, Doctor Kenichi Nakayama, did as much as he could to make his life comfortable while also trying to find a cure. Due to being a skilled geneticist, Dr. Nakayama was brought into the monster research division of the Japanese Defense Force to study the Giant Monsters that attack the nation constantly. While studying a tissue sample of the monster designated Samoroar, Nakayama discovered it possessed incredible regenerative abilities which explained its ability to survive military assaults and gave him an idea of how to save his son. After developing a special serum from the sample, Dr. Nakayama injected Yukio with it and the boy’s life was saved but not without some interesting developments. After an encounter with Samoroar and seeming to ‘call’ the monster against another creature, Yukio and his father discover that the boy had an empathic link to Samoroar. Further study from a research outpost on the sanctuary of Ryukaki Island found Yukio’s ability to somewhat communicate with the creature and allowed him to call Samoroar in times of need and sense his presence. Yukio was given a kind of honorary status as part of the Japanese Hero Coalition alongside Samoroar. Later as he reached puberty, Yukio would start to develop new powers such as a transformation ability that gave him physical traits that resembled his monstrous counterpart. These abilities led to him gaining a new monster as the Kaiju Kid and also got him a membership with the Tomorrow Team where he gained some level of control over his powers though there’s some level of instability at times even if he doesn’t entirely say why.
Powers & Abilities: Limited Empathic Communication- This was the first initial power that Yukio manifested after receiving the serum from his father to save his life. He discovered this ability to feel the creature’s emotional state during a battle after his injection where he described it like being mad at someone who took his toy, bearing in mind that he was about 8 when he described it. This communicative bond seemed to be felt by both Yukio and Samoroar as in later times when Yukio was in danger, Samoroar would arrive and fight off the threat. Of course to prevent Samoroar from just showing up out of nowhere whenever Yukio felt threatened, the boy would start to wear some psionic dampening tech in the form of a choker like collar. He can easily remove it though if he feels it’s necessary.
Limited Transformation- The first of Yukio’s abilities he would develop during early puberty, particularly after weeks of strange growing pains. Yukio possesses an ability to transform into a version of himself with traits resembling Samoroar with scaly skin, sharp teeth, enlarged feet, fin-like spines down his back and large clawed forearms & hands. Though initially seeming erratic, Dr. Nakayama and his colleagues would understand that the transformation was triggered by emotions primarily anxiety, fear and anger. Yukio was kind of freaked out by this change in himself but would come to appreciate the boones from this form and would gain better control of it.
Enhanced Strength, Agility and Reflexes- An aspect of Yukio’s monster form is an enhancement of his physical abilities primarily his strength, agility and reflexes. His strength is on par with most mid tier super strong heroes, with displays of his strength shown through managing to hold off teams of minions easily, lift/throw small vehicles, leave indentions in the ground and tear through metal. His agility is impressive as he is able to leap great heights and cling to walls and able to dodge around some enemy attacks, which is a surprise to most given his large bulky hands. This agility and reflexes almost like a cat make it impressive for him to maneuver around a battlefield. The full extent of these abilities can only be accessed when he’s in his monster form though he can tap into these abilities to a small degree with enough focus.
Enhanced Durability- Another aspect of the transformed Yukio is incredible durability. His skin in his transformed state gains a similar scaly hardness to Samoroar and is equally durable. Most forms of ammunition and some energy weapons don’t appear to leave a scratch on him in this form, along some the average bladed weapons. Some higher grade of such offensive methods can harm him but not to the same extent if he were in his normal state. He is equally resistant to fire and cold but extreme temperatures on either end of the scale can slow him down. Electrical forms of attack like stun guns can stun him but he can shrug it off easily unless it is a fairly high charge.
Accelerated Healing/Regeneration- This ability was gained thanks to the serum Yukio received from his father and was kind of the purpose of it to begin with; enhanced healing. While this helped deal with the disease that was killing him, Yukio would kind of subtly display accelerated healing after the serum injection with small cuts and scratches healing almost instantly after he received them. As he got older, he found his time spent with bandages was significantly less than others and even broken limbs would heal much more quickly. This healing is even better in his transformed state with documented evidence shown of him having once lost his tail in a fight with a villain but it started to regrow afterwards. No exact limit has quite been placed on his healing ability but Dr. Nakayama hasn’t been fond of the idea of trying to test it if it means harming his son.
Fire Breath- An ability many are surprised that Yukio has of Samoroar’s would be a scaled down version of the creature’s fire breath. This is thanks to a strange mutation that appears in Yukio’s biology in the form of a small gizzard-like sac attached to his lungs. While mostly useless in his normal form apart from generating a slightly stronger form of halitosis, this gizzard generates highly flammable liquids that when combined when making contact with the air ignites like a small flamethrower. Unlike his larger counterpart, this fire breath can’t be sustained for long lasting maybe 15-20 minutes of prolonged use meaning Yukio usually saves this for necessary occasions or as a last resort in combat.[/i]
Here's a fun one that also ties into KaiJune, a semi-kaiju themed teen superhero. I kind of drew inspiration for the kid from Beast Boy, some stuff mentioned in the Godzilla films and a greek myth of a young man called Cedalion who helped a blinded Orion. Some things were changed but I'm pretty pleased with how his story came together and how his design came out. Censor bar included since he is a teen hero and I don't want to get flagged. I hope you guys enjoy the pic.
