CPN-25 Leksa
Leksa, a Rabbit Kannist, was once a low-ranking officer for the planetary navy on Fenix IV, Orodon’s sister planet, when a Renegade scout ship was found probing the atmosphere. Against her captain’s orders, she opened fire on the ship, destroying it effectively, but the aggressive action triggered an approaching fleet of 200 Renegade Ships to attack. This was the first encounter between the two factions, and both sides had taken heavy losses. While the Kannists could easily take out ships with their energy weapons, their shields could not protect their structures and ships from weaponry that dated back several hundred years. A second wave of Renegade ships soon appeared in orbit, and the majority of the Kannist forces had been eradicated, going into hiding as an underground force. With all communications shot, their only hope was that Orodon would come to rescue them.
It was Leksa, however, that ensured the takeover of Fenix IV under renegade hands. Disgruntled with the Joint Staff and being a sergeant for 20 years, despite fruitful efforts of showing she deserved more recognition, she saw an opportunity for moving herself up in the world. Betraying her species, she revealed the locations of the underground hideouts of the Kannist rebels, as well as the secrets of multiverse travel and some of the Kannists greatest tactics. Eventually, all that was left of the Kannist forces were gone, either killed or converted in cyborgs. Leksa, herself, was converted into a Node, with the remains of her former comrades, including her commanding officer, now working for her!
Her ambition knows no ends, however. Even several years later, she is a Power Node commanding a fleet of decent size for a cyborg, is 79.5% Mechanical, and still she is not satisfied. She has openly declared to her creator that she intends to rule the Renegades alone, leading the Cyborgs to their true place as the conquerors of the Multiverse. Unfortunately, however, many of her ambitious plans have failed utterly, due to random mishaps or because she makes big miscalculations. Mutant Zero, however, has never really found a reason to terminate Leksa. As she is still a cyborg programmed under him, she can never truly rebel against him, not even harm him. As a result, her threats are deep, but always empty.
Currently, she’s now directed her efforts and frustrations to Jonas O’Rion, a pilot who single handedly obliterated half of her fleet . Declaring him her arch-rival, she will not stop until Jonas’s head is mounted on her wall. Jonas could care less for the rivalry, however.
Physiology
Leksa is 79.5% mechanical. All that remains of her former body is her heart, lungs, and her head. Her spinal column and brain have been augmented with a cybernetic implant that allows her to remain alive while it is separated from her heart and lungs, which have been mechanically integrated into her personal suit. Thus, she is free to choose from a wide variety of bodies to use to attach her head to, provided they are compatible with her head. Her preferred body is a light female melee suit, which simulates something close to her old body.
Her left eye, however, is cybernetically enhanced. A special implant around the outside of her cheek has caused it to dilate abnormally, consequently making it light-sensitive. However, it has granted her night vision, making her perfectly able to see in even absolute darkness.
Weapon Systems
Leksa is very fast in her standard suit, often surprising others when she appears from behind them, stabbing them with built-in durasteel echoswords, slashing weapons that emit a sonic frequency as they slash for enhanced damage. She is equipped with four of them, two of which are on her forearms, and another two are located on the ankles of her feet. They are retractable so she can only pull them out when the time calls for it.
Another feature are twin shoulder-mounted 15mm machine guns, which are loaded with one 1000-Round ammunition drum each, both of which are installed inside of her back. They have a rather short range, only going as far as a hundred yards, but they do pierce through most bulletproof vests, even doing decent damage to power armor used by Kannists.
Concerning the Renegades
The empire Mutant Zero has laid out across the universe is divided into two sections: PHALANX, which is devoted to the creation and training of Mutants, and the Renegades, Mutant Zero’s personal faction composed entirely of cyborgs and drones. Drones come in a variety of sizes, and are rarely built for being manned inside of a ship(These drones are often seen working alongside Cyborgs and their vessels.). Usually drones are what composes the majority of the Renegade fleets: large automated capital ships and fighters all programmed under one mind: The Master of Machines. Given the simplest of programming, they rarely are capable of making complicated decisions and will only venture with what their master has allowed them. In this way, it is nearly impossible for them to turn on their creator. The only true drone that can rebel against Mutant Zero’s orders are those lucky enough to be given a positronic brain(See the Protatrons.)
Concerning Cyborgs
Even humanoid drones, however, have more value to mutant Zero than the lowest of the low: Cyborgs. These are often P.O.W.’s, liberated aliens, and miscreants that’ve betrayed their species in search of power. Augmented with cybernetics using the same format as drones, they now serve as Mutant Zero’s personal slaves, unwilling or no. Those who were coerced into accepting these cyber augmentations are often left working at half their normal performance, putting them in a living death. Volunteers and those eager to help the cause of PHALANX and the Renegades, however, are often given the full package, even some additional privileges and parts. Regardless, discipline is applied to those who disobey Mutant Zero’s orders, often with slowing their cybernetic implants’ power cycles(Often felt as a “really nasty electrocution”).
Cyborgs are divided into three ranks, based on their composition; the higher the amount of bionics in their body, the higher their rank.
Cyborgs (01-25% Mechanical): Usually prisoners of war and those alien species that refused to serve the Renegades. The most expendable of the Cyborgs, often used in suicide missions, such as front line assault or missions that require sacrificing lives.
Nodes (26-54% Mechanical): Mostly reformed criminals, seasoned Cyborgs(If they manage to survive the hardships of their missions) and traitors; also, some liberated aliens who volunteer to aid the Renegades, though they really offer nothing. Middle ranking cyborgs that command the lesser Cyborgs into battle, though they are allowed to supervise the activities of lesser Drones , such as cleaning units and basic maintenance. They are occasionally granted a capital ship to command.
Power Nodes (55-80% Mechanical): Seasoned Nodes or the most valued of assimilated species(Other than human), who offer much to the cause of the Renegades, whether it be information or natural weapons or even the power of psionics. These are the elite of Cyborgs, functioning at 110% efficiency, and are often the most dangerous to face in an encounter. They command the Nodes and Cyborgs as well as possess some control over lesser and greater humanoid Drones. They are given their own flagship of command and occasionally a fleet.
Cyborgs that possess a mechanical composition beyond 80% are no longer considered “alive.” Rather, they are officially declared as humanoid Drones and are given greater privileges than Cyborgs, even to where they are granted their own land and slaves to rule to, providing they offer tribute to the Renegades. Cyborgs rarely function long enough to gain this privilege, however.
Expendability
Cyborgs are seen by the majority of PHALANX as traitorous scum, foreigners with no real place in their path to ascending humanity. They were never human as they used to be, and rarely do they possess the gifts of psionics. Why should something so much lesser than themselves matter? Atop from that, where’s the point in sending in one of their own when you could send a hundred cyborgs to soften up the enemy lines? To one who is very loyal to Mutant Zero, Cyborgs are just cannon fodder.
Those who’ve actually worked with Cyborgs share a different viewpoint. A large level of sympathy especially exists from the acolytes waiting to be turned into mutants. Many of the Cyborgs never wanted to be a part of the army, forcibly transmogrified into the equivalent of a zombie; in fact, volunteers will agree that they are, to some degree, disgusted with their current existence. Even the Drones themselves see no logic in the way the cyborgs are treated. It’s very inefficient and illogical to create something so cheaply and then only have the parts wasted in a volley of laser fire. Despite what they feel, their hardware and programming prevents them from openly rebelling against Mutant Zero. While the Master of Machine reigns, only death will free them from this horror.
