In my main story universe:
Blade grew up with Nicky (Sonic) and Mighty in Hedgehog Town on Christmas Island. Like with most people, meeting Sonic allowed this boy to become a better person, no longer shying away at the presence of other people in fear of saying the wrong thing or of his powers going off and skewering someone alive. Unfortunately, tragedy struck a few years into their friendship, as Blade's mother died and his father Zan and infant brother Dane were thought to have died with her. Despite this, Blade dedicated his life to helping others so they wouldn't feel the fear and loneliness he had to endure through childhood.

Blade's power is to create blades from thin air - whether they're actual blades or energy solidified to resemble blades nobody has been able to figure out, and Blade quite frankly doesn't care. However, a loss of concentration can cause these blade images to "shatter" and the ability to not work.

As for the sword Blade is seen with in this picture it is a sword passed down through his family line with mysterious powers. You can't see it in this picture, but on the tsuba - the crossguard - facing him, there are seven small gems. These gems have a story - in centuries past, there were another set of seven mystical jewels. While nothing in comparison to the Chaos Emeralds or the Time Stones, these jewels each had powers that could gleam into dangerous territory - and those who used them at full power would be corrupted. Despite this, people would come from all around to try to claim the jewels. A wandering swordsman, seeing the strife and conflict caused by these jewels, decided to take matters into his own hands and destroyed them. While it was thought to be the end of it, apparently, a tiny piece of each of the Seven still remained, and the warrior took them and hid them on the tsuba of his katana, painting over them so nobody would know.

It wouldn't be until his Blade's grandfather's generation that the paint had warn off, but time had gone by and everyone had forgotten what the powers of the jewels were. Slowly, Blade will discover these answers.

Blade has a rather interesting lineage, one that may or may not be visited in a later picture. This lineage would eventually allow him to find and reunite with Zan and Dane much later in life.
