The “$” is used for many currencies around the world. In this case, my guess is these prices are in Mexican pesos, so that car price is about US$10K.

No shame in having a scooter! When I lived in Japan I had a 50cc scooter that took me where I needed to go.

Of course, right now I couldn't live without my current ride (a sedan), but yeah, scooters are fun.
