Hmmm... I mean, understanding and connection is good, but I'm not sure simply open communication will solve, say, literal fascists. Still, it's at least well-intentioned, and interesting!

It's more about the fact that literal fascists are far fewer than they seem to be and a lot of people who are not fascists get lobbed there... because people "pick up the signs".

The problem is if somebody gets labeled as something harmful... it will make become that "something harmful".

Because when people have a problem due to ignorance or other basic stuff (usually when they are young and "very pliable") they will seek comfort in those very things that they have been accused of by other people who are not against those things.

And that is how you get people to join groups who get or become toxic and create an "other" of other people who may have had a lot more in common with you than you might think but that... welll... by being driven away (through you efforts of love to "correct" their "mistakes" or your hatred of some group that has something in common with their interests or whatever) end up joining the "other side" for real.

To be honest twitter is one of the worst thing that could happen to humanity, because people get often judged based on 160 characters taken out of context by other people who do not know them.

And i've seen people flat out refuse any explanation or anything the person being accused of "something" would offer. Said "something" was probably never done or not to the harmful extent they were accused of... or even if it was they were treated in such a way that they did not wish to correct themselves anymore and instead barricaded behind their beliefs.

Because that is what happens when you treat badly somebody for something they have no idea why it would be bad... or that is definitively not bad but people caught "signs" of "possible bad things happening that are not being overtly said".

Aaand when people do mistakes... attacking them for their mistake is the worst thing you can do if you wish them to stop doing their mistakes.

It is something humans do because when you are scared and you have been hurt, your first instinct is to yell at somebody to stop and then get aggressive to "make them stop".

But that was never useful. Especially among humans.

If anything... that's how wars begin. It takes courage and a lot of endurance to meet somebody whom you are sure is going to hurt you and see that they are actually 100% harmless... except when they speak of "the other" and that "other" often has qualities you identify with. And their "oh but we don't mean you" sounds fake... except it is often 100% true. They do not mean you at all, they know you and know you have nothing to do with "them" but the problem stands when there is an "us" and a "them".

Becaause it is a mechanism that helps us as humans to connect. But locks us out of more connections out of fear for bad behaviour... which is often mostly imagined.

And the more people are angry they more they focus on the stuff that hurt them.

That's the one part of that I'm not convinced on. We've been called stuff like hateful MRAs with no regard for consent by weird TERFs, and haven't become that, and we also know other people who have been called awful stuff and not become it. *Shrugs.* Not saying such things can never have any effect, but it seems like a somewhat simplistic model overall.

And mostly hate based on zero basis because all their friends do it or something along those lines.
Basically they hate because they have no clue and they can only think of "the bad stuff that can happen" rather than "what actually happens".
Sure. Some people hate because... reasons.
And yeah you cannot convince those idiots.

But the vast majority of people just hate based on random machination or seeing bad stuff happening and finding the wrong scapegoat.
