I think that it would be a big mistake to use that ex con story. Any cop that hears it will figure that you were really guilty anyway, and put you on the local ex con shit list - with no possibility of removal - ever. The absence of a real criminal record would be irrelevant - he wouldn't even check. This is NOT the sort of thing that would attract either girls or employers.
