I would argue it is engaging with the art as its been drawn? Its not even a stretch. Goat-guy was clearly not into this, and Kree didn't seem to care all that much?
Not a bad thing, mind you. Dark undertones can be fun. But the longer this series gets, the more of an impression you leave of time passing. Tally's just kind of...the main person at this point?

Well see… to pull back the curtain and kinda "ruin the joke by explaining it", but spoiler… he is into this, just Out Of Character. Sometimes people like to explore stories where In Character and OOC motivations don't overlap. It's been quite a common theme for both goatboy and I to light-heartedly explore silly nonsense scenarios about our characters getting "stuck" in situations like this. Both of us have a lot of "alt-timeline" sandboxes of this sort of theme. It's not an uncommon theme amongst a lot of furry art in general, so it was a bit jarring to have it recontextualised into such a negative viewpoint. On top of that you both say you still like it… so… that just makes it even more confusing…?
I don't want to be a sourpuss about feedback (of any type), but what exactly am I supposed to do with it? Like… them swapping places with the tail is the point of this silly little TF exploration. It would ruin the light-hearted OOC fun we have about the "stuck" scenarios to worry over it in that way. Viewing it in such a negative light is way out of left-field in terms of the context of what kind of sequence this was made to be. It wasn't designed to be that kind of… thing…? I'm lost for the right word.
Like for example, maybe there's a better way to view this that doesn't have to be that gloomy. Kail and Tally are effectively now people as well aren't they? So, if they did get swapped back, then that's just the same dilemma all over again, isn't it? Or do they "not count", just because they started out as tails…? Maybe "being a tail" doesn't have to such a terrible thing to end up as to make it feel so terrible in the first place? It may not be the same sort of existence as being the "head of the body", but to me "being a tail" isn't the same as being this… "sad trapped head" sort of vibe…? Consider maybe that in this TF scenario, everything (or in this case, other parts of the same thing) has a kind of vague "life" in existence that they "live", and that being swapped around doesn't mean an isolated death-like end, it just means a different kind of existence. In all the other timelines, the tails are living their tail-lives just fine as they are… so why can't this one timeline be a quirky little side-story about them getting their own "turn" as the "head of the body"…? The IC motivations of the characters might be that they don't "want this", but sometimes it can be fun to explore things, even if IC motivations don't always align with the scenario. Living as a tail might not be ideal for them but it's not terrible…
It feels weird to say this because I'm always a big softie who likes every story to end with the happiest of happy ending… but sometimes thing can feel incredibly stifling to be limited to themes of only good things ever happening in stories. Like, I hate bad ends, I almost ALWAYS want to see every character get a happy end (even when I know it's not realistic), but a story of nothing but happy things feels horribly worse. There's the whole concept of Order and Chaos and how they ought to be balanced, and everyone knows what unchecked Chaos leads to in countless stories, but there's not a lot of stories are about how terrible unchecked Order can be too. A world in which nothing bad ever happens is a world where nothing good can ever happen either. So yeah, sometimes I like to explore things that aren't ideal for the characters, and it feels weird that sometimes it's like walking on eggshells to do it…
Sorry it got very long-winded there… I'm not angry just trying to explain it out (but maybe poorly) and I tend to write too much. It's just… argh… the sudden context shift really threw me for a loop, both then and now.
P.S. Apologies for taking a month to reply, I have a bad habit combination of procrastination and some amount of social anxiety sometimes… which to leads to such a dramatic flip-flop between either uneasy silence or word-flood… 😰

I'm sorry to also be a killjoy but when I originally saw your art it just made me feel incredibly bad for the characters. I'm very relieved to see that they're still even alive in there. Actually, like, it's very relieving to know they're not, well, dead. I understand what you're saying about not everything always being good and all but it's still a terrifying thing to just one day have your entire body be stolen within seconds and all... And the character doing all this just feels... Empathyless? Like, they just pushed away a creature who... I'm getting all doomy and gloomy but point is I'm relieved and I get... Too worked up about fictional characters
You asked about what you could do about a good end and that a re-swap wouldn't be nice either (which I 100% agree with), so... I don't know if you'd care to hear a suggestion but if you were, because you like good ends, these would be mine:
- Not a reswap but instead getting them to share the same body, each side being able to stand up and have the other act as the tail
- Get the head back out as a tailhead
- Splitting them into 2 people who hang out as friends
(and maaybe I'd be asking too much for the TF-er apologizing for the emotional distress)
I'd comment this on the actual artwork but I wouldn't wanna spread my doom and gloom further so instead I hope it's fine if I put it here? In https://www.furaffinity.net/view/43453835 the tail also seemed to be very much against this permanent-tf, and in the end I feared the worst (as I often do) about them practically being lobotomized, I'd just hope to hear from the artist themselves if they're still just as sentient as before and just started liking it or if they really were stolen their ability to think?
