This Independence Day, remember that liberty had to be played in blood. The American colonies did not gain their independence right away by the signing of the Declaration. A war was needed to back it up - a war against neighbors and against the most powerful army in the world.
55 men signed the Declaration, several went missing, some were caught, some had their homes burnt, families captured, some were killed in battle.
