Chapter 28: A Day Out with Monsuno
The day was mild and warm, with a light breeze blowing on the faces of all who were outdoors and enjoying the weather. Godfred and Nicholas were taking a snooze in the carriage while the royal children were enjoying the day with their new companions.
Right now, all of them were playing in the ocean while the Blue-Moon Monsuno watched on in amusement. They had never been around children before, only with teens. Kathrin, Malak and Radelle were on the beach, making a sandcastle.
“That’s a nice castle” Mystic-Blade spoke up, looking over at her shoulder. The three girls giggled as she looked at the Winged Serpent. “My parents told me I have the magic touch when it comes to craft time.” Kathrin explained. “My momma also tells me I have a gift when it comes to making things.” Radelle added. “When its in the kitchen or in the crafts table.” “
“Mr Mystic...” Kathrin shyly asked. “Do you mind if we braid your mane?” The wise wolf-headed serpent was stunned to hear this. “Braid...?” He asked. “Yes.” Malak added, smiling as well as she, Radelle Kathrin stood up and held up the large necklace. “It’s our way of saying thank you for rescuing us last night...”
The Winged Serpent smiled gently. “No one has ever asked me for anything before” He spoke, his voice was sincere and grateful. “Thank you, little sisters.” Kathrin, Malak and Radelle just smiled and began braiding his mane.
Meanwhile, Dianne, Edgard, Ping and Luciana were having a splash fight against Mainard, Tracy, Azad and Garrick. All of them were soaked to the bone and laughing merrily. Meanwhile, Jin and Melody were collecting seashells and sand-dollars on the beach. Jin found a green curled seashell while Melody found a beautiful, large white conch shell with a light pink inside.
She smiled and thought. “I bet Lok would like to see this!” She ran over to the White Bear, who was lying down on the beach, relaxing in the sun and looking out into the ocean. “Lok!” Melody called out “Look what I found! A conch shell!” Lok looked down the little girl and chuckled slightly. He felt a strong sense of attachment to her, even though he had only known her for one day.
“I see, little sister.” He chuckled, smiling again. Melody offered the shell to him, and the White Bear gingerly picked it up with his right paw. “It is beautiful.” He rumbled gently. “Just like the maiden who found it.” Melody blushed as Lok handed it back to her.
“Little sister,” Lok asked. “thank you for the time we have today” Melody smiled again. “You’re welcome, Lok” She replied. “There’s no need to thank you.” “Actually there is...” The White Bear added. “For as long as we can remember, we Monsuno have only known one thing; fighting.”
“When Suno first created Monsuno, he discovered that the enormous power we wielded.” Lok continued. “It was only a matter of time before others began to create their own Monsuno.” “Others?” Melody asked
Lok nodded. “You see, little Melody.” He sighed. “All Monsuno are created to be born fighters” “There are those who sought to exploit our powers, to use as weapons of war, to create armies of Monsuno for them to command.”
Melody grew stunned and sad to hear this. She knew that all animals fought often, whether it was to protect mates, food or home; but she sensed that Lok was more than a base animal and it saddened her that some people from his world used them as war machines.
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Melody replied softly. “There is nothing to apologize for, little sister.” Lok replied, kindly. “Our time here with you and the children is slowly changing us.” “For the first time, humans don’t see us as monsters or violent beasts, but living beings capable of intelligence and compassion like you.”
He gestured around. “Look at my brothers, see how well they get along with your friends” Melody looked around and saw some of the Monsuno playing with the other royal children. Deep-Six and Glow-Blade were having a swim, with Mainard and Tracy riding on the Tiger-Shark's back while Azad and Ping were riding on the Hydra; all of them laughing loudly.
Soaring above them, were Evo and Sky-Fall. Dianne and Edgard were riding on the Blue-Phoenix while Garrick and Luciana were riding on the Great Falcon. They were laughing and cheering loudly with excitement.
Jin smiled as she joined them. “Mama always told me to see the good in everyone.” She added. “I guess you and your tribe have learnt to the same, Lok.” The White Bear smiled back. “If only the people in my world are as kind and understanding as you children are.”
Both girls smiled. “Hey, girls!” Mainard called out to them on Deep-Six's back. “How about some friendly competition?!” “Yeah!” Azad exclaimed from Sky-Fall's back. “Let’s have a race to see who’s the fastest!”
“Come on, little sisters!” The Tiger-Shark roared out in excitement. “Me and my little brother can take on any newcomers!” “Come on, young ones!” The Falcon called from above. “Ready to ride with the winds!?”
Tracy smirked. “It seems whether if they’re Monsuno or human, boys love to show off!” “Tell me about it!” Malak added as she, Kathrin and Radelle joined them. “If there’s one thing my brother loves, it’s a challenged”
“How about it, girls!?” Mainard called out, grinning. “Wanna a race with us?!” Neo-Quickforce snorted as he approached the beach. “Well, the young wolf-cub has issued a challenged, little sister.” The Hippogriff spoke, pawing the ground with his clawed hoof. “What says you?”
“I’m in!” Malak replied, grinning. “What about you?” Kathrin and Melody looked at one another with wide grins. “We accept!” They exclaimed to Tracy who grinned proudly. “Well, then...” Neo-Quickforce spoke as he laid down and offered one of his wings. “Let’s give them a race they’ll never forget.”
Malak, Jin, Kathrin and Melody excitedly climbed on his back and the Hippogriff took to the sky. “Okay, then!” Mainard called out. “Race to the big rock in the ocean and back to the beach!” “Ready to eat my dust, sister?!” Azad called out, grinning from Sky-Fall's back.
“We’ll see about that, brother!” Malak replied, grinning back. “Sorry, Jie-Jie!” Jin called out. “I’m going to go easy on you!” Ping smiled proudly. “Neither will I, Mei-Mei!!” She replied. “Now...” Mainard called out. “On your mark... get set...GO!!!”
With that, Neo-Quickforce, Deep-Six, Sky-Fall and Glow-Blade surged on with their human companions in tow. “WAHOOOOOO!!!” The royal children all yelled with delight as the water splashed their faces and the wind whipped at their hair.
“Come on, my brothers!” Sky-Fall called as he soared ahead. “Is that the best you got?!” “No fair!” Glow-Blade hissed from below. “We can’t fly!” “Doesn't matter!” Deep-Six added, as he surged forward. “I’m the best swimmer here!” “We’ll see about that!” Evo called out as she flew ahead.
“Swimming won’t do you any good if you can fly!” Neo-Quickforce shot back. “Hang on, little sisters!!” The three princesses clung onto the Hippogriff’s back and squealed with delight as he flew forwards the rock. Sky-Fall and Evo screeched in surprise as Neo-Quickforce sped past him, before they recovered and raced after him. Below them, Deep-Six and Glow-Blade raced through the waves, cutting through the water like a hot knife through butter.
Little did they know that the rock belonged to a certain seagull. On the rock was a small crow’s nest and some wooden planks from a sunken ship. Near the crow’s nest, was a small anchor and on said nest was a seagull.
The rock was the home of...Scuttle the seagull, one of Ariel’s closest friends who helped her and Eric on numerous occasions! Right now, he was taking a nap under the warm sun and the cool breeze.
He let out a yawn. “Mmmmm! This is the life!” He muttered, laying on his back and stretching his wings. “Just me and my little home... No crazy sea witches to chase after, Ariel and her family are safe and no more whacks on the head!”
“Ahh... I could get used to this.” He added, turning over his side with his back facing the ocean. He was so relaxed that he didn’t see the Monsuno closing in on his rock! Deep-Six reached the rock first, Mainard and Tracy reaching out to touch the crow’s next plank before the Tiger-Shark turned to head back to shore. He turned hard so fast, that he splashed water all over Scuttle!
The seagull stood up slightly, not even realizing that he was soaked to the feathers now! “Hu? Who’s there?” He asked in a groggy voice, looking around. “What’s going on?”. At that moment, Glow-Blade had arrived at the rock!
Azad and Ping reached out and touched the rock. “Come on, Glow-Blade!” Ping yelled out. “We have to catch up to the others!” The Hydra hissed back. “Hold on, little ones-s-s!!” He surged on ahead, putting in some power in his tail to give himself more thrust. As he turned around, his huge tail raised up high and brought down hard on the water!
*SPLASH!!* The Hydra created a little tidal wave that knocked Scuttle off his feet and sending him into the ocean!! Azad and Ping cheered as Glow-Blade gained on his opponents. “AWWK!” Scuttle squawked as he rose back up from the ocean, coughing up sea water and looking like a drowned rat. “BLEAH! ACK! BRRR! What the-!? Who did that?! Come on, show yourselves!”
He looked around to see anything there and turned around to see some strange objects in the distance. He flew over at them rather sluggishly, due to his soaked wings. “Hey, come back here!” Scuttle exclaimed. “Ever heard of courtesy?! You should know better to wake someone up from a nap, especially if ya dunk them in the ocean!”
As he tried to keep up, he saw three huge dark shadows on the ocean, right above where he was flying. Scuttle looked up, only to find three large forms with colors of blue and white come out and sweep past him faster than any animal he knew of!
He yelled in shock and fright, then he stumbled in his flight and was swept up by the draft from the three objects streaking ahead of him. He lost altitude, skipped on the water a couple of times like a small stone, before falling back into the water. He coughed up seawater as he stuck his head from the ocean, wondering what flew past him.
Melody, Kathrin and Malak were riding on Neo-Quickforce, followed by Evo with Dianne and Edgard and Sky-Fall with Garrick and Luciana. “Come on, Evo!” Dianne exclaimed. “Let’s show them who’s really the fastest!” “We’ll see about that!” Garrick shot back. “Ready, Sky-Fall!?”
Both birds screeched loudly in response, too excited to speak as they went down a little, gaining some speed. However, Neo-Quickforce noticed this. “Hang on, little sisters!” He called out as he folded his four wings and zoomed forward.
“WAHOO!!” Melody, Kathrin and Malak squealed as they sped through the air, soaring over Deep-Six and Glow-Blade. Soon, they were well in the lead. On the beach, Lok and the rest of the Blue-Moon Tribe were waiting for them.
“I see Brother Quick-Force!” Charger called out. “He’s in the lead!” “Come on, Deep-Six!” Batteram snorted. “You’re neck and neck with him!” “Ey, Glow-Blade, Evo!” Babeon added, pumping a clawed fist in the air. “Don’t be draggin’ ya tails now, mon!”
Neo-Quickforce and Deep-Six were neck in neck, with Sky-Fall following close behind. The Tiger-Shark let out a powerful lash with his tail to give him an extra burst of speed but the Hippogriff flapped his four great wings and dove forward. Soon, Neo-Quickforce was the first to land on the beach with his Tribe hooting and howling with cheers.
“You won, brother!” Lok proclaimed, beating his chest. Neo-Quickforce made a small cooing sound as Melody, Kathrin and Malak slid of his back from his wings. “Yes! Yes!” They cried out. “We won! We won!” Neo-Quickforce chuckled, amused at the girls’ cheers.
Deep-Six came in second, staggering onto the shore “Sorry, we didn’t win, Deep-Six” Mainard spoke as he and Tracy jumped off from his back and they patted on the right side of his head. “No worries, little brother.” The Tiger-Shark grinned. “Second place is not that bad.” “You’re right, Mainard.” Tracy added, smiling as she snuggled against his great head. “You did your best and I’m proud of you.”
Deep-Six let out a rumbling sound that sounded like a chuckle and nudged her a little, Mainard too before stretching his legs and heading to a spot to rest. Kathrin looked at Neo-Quickforce and smiled. “Thank you for the ride, Quick-Force!” she stated. “That was just fantastic!” “You’re welcome, little sister...” The Hippogriff replied, nudging her gently with his beak.
“Look out below!!” A voice called out and Sky-Fall flew overhead them, fast and sure! “Eep!” Melody squeaked and held onto Neo-Quickforce who looked up to see the Great Falcon, making a little turnabout as he flew over them gliding over the forest, before landing perfectly beside Charger.
“Sky-Fall, you were terrific in the air!!” Garrick stated happily. “I bet you can fly faster than any bird!” The Falcon puffed up his chest with pride. “Be careful, little brother!” Evo called as she came in, landing on the beach. “The only thing you’ll do is give Sky-Fall a big head!”
“Never mind that, Evo.” Dianne replied, she and her brother troking her feathers. “At least, you tried your best.” The Blue Phoenix made a cooing sound as she looked down on her human friends. Finally, Glow-Blade slithered up onto the shore, exhausted that he used his spider limbs to crawl.
“Better luck next time, Glow-Blade!” Charger replied, grinning. “Don’t rub it in...” The Hydra grumbled, flickering his three forked tongues. “Don’t feel bad, Glow-Blade...” Azad assured him, stroking his scales. “There’s always next time.”
Melody looked on in amusement, seeing all her friends and the Blue-Moon Monsuno getting along so well. Suddenly, she heard a muffled sound coming from the ocean and turned towards the horizon. Squinting her eyes and frowning a bit, she peered into the distance and saw something coming out from the water.
As she squinted more, her frown turned to a look of horror when she saw that the object was Scuttle! He was flying rather slowly and clumsily due to his soaked feathers with his wet feathers covered his eyes.
“Everyone! Everyone!” She shouted to the others. “We need to hide the Blue-Moons now! A friend of mine is coming over here!” The royal children grew alarmed, they didn’t want to reveal their Monsuno friends yet. The Monsuno looked surprised and a little on edge.
“A friend of yours?” Lok asked in surprise. “No time to explain!” Melody replied, a look of worry. “You and your Tribe need to find somewhere to hide!” “How!?” Luciana asked urgently. “They all can’t hide in the forest!”
“I got it!” Mainard exclaimed. “Lok, Glow-Blade, Mystic-Blade and Deep-Six can hide in the water; Charger, Batteram and Clubber can hide in the shallow waters and pretend to be large rocks.” “Babeon can put some mud on Evo, Sky-Fall and Quick-Force to make them look like large rocks,” he added. “while the rest can hide in the forest!”
The Blue-Moon wanted to ask some more, but seeing Melody and the royal children in a panic, they felt it was best to hide themselves. After all, they knew they were in a strange world and not everyone will be as friendly as the children.
Lok, Glow-Blade, Deep-Six and Mystic-Blade went into the water and slowly sank into the water at the deep end. Charger, Batteram and Clubber waded into the shallow end and lowered themselves down to look like strange looking rocks. Evo and Sky-Fall laid themselves flat on the ground while Babeon covered them with dust, mud and gravel to make them look like large stones, before he joined the others to hide in the forest.
They were just in the nick of time as Scuttle landed on the beach and looked about. “Alright, where are ya!? Huh?!” He squawked, puffing out his feathers and putting his feathers up, curling the tips to make them look like fists. “Come on out and fight like a man!!” Melody, Tracy and even Ping giggled at the seagull’s antics.
Mainard pointed at the funny bird and said in a high-pitched voice. “It’s talking! The bird’s talking and I can understand it!” Some of the royal children learnt that some places in the Magic Kingdom had strong magic and this unique magic allows animals to gain knowledge and develop the ability to speak and think like humans.
Melody smiled as she went up to the bird, who was still trying to whack whatever sent him into the water. She lifted up Scuttle’s wet feathers that were over his eyes and when he saw Melody’s smiling face, he calmed down instantly.
“Oh! If it isn’t my favorite human in the entire sea! Hi, Melody!” Scuttle exclaimed, shaking the water from his feathers, causing them to fluff up and making him look like a giant wad of cotton. The children snickered at this, causing the bird to look at them.
“Hi, Scuttle! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Melody replied. “Glad to see you’re okay!” “Oh, these are my new friends!” She added. “They came from all over the Magic Kingdom to be at my party that starts in two days.”
The seagull smoothed his feathers to be more presentable, going to Tracy first and shook her hand. “Pleasure to meet all of ya!” He said proudly, as he shook each of the royal children’s hands. “Name’s Scuttle, the greatest expert of humans that ever lived!”
The kids gave Melody a quizzical look when he mentioned that he was a human expert, only for the latter to smile and gesture to play along with it. The royal children smiled at the funny sea bird and greeted him back, introducing themselves one by one,
Azad, Malak, Ping and Jin were the most welcoming; the first two having been around a certain, greedy parrot and the latter with a certain, wisecracking dragon, both of which the seagull reminded them of.
“So, Scuttle, what brings you out here?” Melody asked. “And why are you soaking wet?” The seagull turned to her, with a very cross but humorous look on his face. “Well, I was minding my own business in my little nest on my rock when all of a sudden...BAM!” Scuttle replied. “I got soaked by something that splashed nearby in the water and when I flew over to see what it was... POW!”
“I got knocked over by three large things that flew faster than any bird I know around here!” He added. “It knocked me back in the water, and I came here to see if it landed here! I also wanted to find the jerks that splashed me first that came up here! They gonna be sorry!!” He looked around in annoyance.
The children put up nervous smiles, realizing it was their little race that knocked the poor seagull around. “Is that so?” Melody lied, trying to settle Scuttle down so he could be on his way. “Well, we’ve been playing this whole time and we never saw anything fly or come by here.” She knew that if the seagull saw their new friends, he would panic and fly to tell her parents. And that was something that had to be delayed until the right time.
“Oh...well okay then.” The seagull muttered, making the children a little nervous. “But, I think a little fly around the place is in order! After all, I need to have a word with the creeps who knocked me down!” He flew back up again in the air and started to circle around, checking the area.
The kids held their breath, hoping that Scuttle would not spot their companions. As the sea bird flew high in the air, he noticed some unusual things down below. There were strange stones near the sandy beach, three odd shaped rocks with shining crystals on top of them and dark shadows in the water.
“Boy, the neighborhood is getting weirder these days” He thought. “Maybe, Ariel and Eric will know something about this. Well, nothing here so I better get...Hey!” Scuttle soon spotted something coming from the ocean near Ariel and Eric’s palace, something familiar.
He dived down to the other side of the cliff, disappearing from the children’s view. Melody sighed in relief, her friends following suit. “Whew! Scuttle’s gone.” She said. “That was close. If it had been anyone else like...”
Her statement died on her lips when she looked up and saw Scuttle again. However, the seagull was not alone as he was clutching a strange object with his webbed feet; a bright red object with pincers.
Melody gasped quietly when she saw that it was Sebastain, her friend, musical genius...and loyal servant of her grandfather, King Triton! Suddenly, a loud voice called out. “I found them! I found them!!”
All the children turned to see a bright red parrot, with a large orange beak flying towards them. Azad and Malak’s eyes widened. “Oh no!” The Arabian princess moaned. “Not Iago!” “Iago?” Melody asked, confused.
“They’re over here, boy!!” Iago called out as he swooped down. A loud whinny responded and a white stallion with a blonde mane that was braided up and a blonde tail. On its back, it wore a saddle with the image of a golden sun. It was Maximus, Rapunzel’s royal horse and her good friend!
Riding on its head was Abu the monkey, Pascal the green chameleon and Mushu, the little red Eastern dragon. “Well, it’s about time!” Mushu yelled back. “This heat is killing me!” The children’s eyes widened. It seems that things just got more complicated from them.
