Chapter 30: The Sidekicks meet the Monsuno!!
Meanwhile, Melody and her friends were having a bit of problems of their own. Scuttle had returned and with him, was an annoyed Sebastain who was currently arguing with the seagull. To make matters worse, Iago the parrot arrived and along with him, was Maximus the horse, Pascal the chameleon, Abu the monkey and Mushu, the little red dragon.
The latter turned to her confused friends. “Everyone, this is Sebastian. Another of my closest friends.” She explained. “He may be hot-tempered and hasty, but he’s a genius when it comes to music. Please don’t ask, I can’t say more on a promise I made.”
Some of the royal kids gave her quizzical looks, but nodded their heads in acceptance. Some kids like Ping, Jin, Azad and Malak understood her situation, having talking animals as companions of their own but others like Mainard and Tracy wanted to know more and made mental notes to try and coax some answers from their friend later on. Right now, there were other situations to deal with.
“What is da matter with you, mon?!” Sebastain yelled at Scuttle. “Scoopin’ me up when me and Flouder were just coming up to the palace!” “I swear, by all that swims in the sea, you’re da craziest living thing on this world!” He ranted.
Scuttle smirked. “Well, I try my best.” He replied, making the crab even more infuriated and when Melody heard that Flounder was here, she quickly looked up to see the yellow fish swimming to the surface near their position. Now, she REALLY believed that the situation was slipping out of their control.
“He’s got a point!” Mushu added, grinning. “But in hindsight, I think you’re even more crazy when you were flailing about like a ragdoll in the sky...hahaha!” “Oh, who asked your opinion, ya walking red eel?!” Sebastain snapped at the little dragon.
“EEL?!” Mushu angrily yelled, as he and Sebastain locked heads. “Say that again, claw-hands!!” “Guys, please don’t fight!!” Jin exclaimed, not liking to see a fight. Maximus whinnied, stopping his hoof and snapped them out of their argument.
Abu jumped down and chattered loudly at the dragon and the crab. “Ooh ooh ee!!!” “What’s that creature squawking about?” Sebastain grumbled, a little annoyed by the monkey’s chatter. “He says that we don’t have time for your dispute,” Iago translated. “and we’ve got bigger problems right now.”
“Calm down, everyone!” Scuttle exclaimed. “Sorry about the little grab-and-go, Sebastain,” He added to the crab. “but I thought you would like to talk to Melody first.” He pointed to the said girl and when the musical genius saw her and her company, his frown disappeared and smiled as he scuttled towards her.
“Melody!” He stated happily. “It’s good to see you, young lady!” “How much you’ve grown! You’re turning into one fine beauty!” “And...oh!” He noticed the other royal kids. “Who are these friends with you?”
Melody smiled nervously. “Sebastain, meet my friend who came with their parents to celebrate my birthday.” She introduced them one by one. “Meet Kathrin, Edgard, Azad, Malak, Edgard, Dianne, Jin, Ping, Garrick, Luciana, Mainard and Tracy.”
The children greeted the small red crab, who returned the gesture. For certain children, like Mainard and Kathrin, it was a bit much to meet talking animals. Others, like the Agrabah and Corona twins, were used to it.
“Hello, what are we, chopped liver!?” Iago spoke up, causing the crab to turn to see the other animals that joined them. Malak sighed “Sorry about that, Mr Sebastain.” She replied. “Iago has a habit of getting into trouble on account of that big mouth of his.”
“Yeah, I can see dat...” The crab muttered before gesturing to Melody to pick him up. As she kneeled down and scooped him up, Sebastain whispered. “Melody, your grandfather sends his regards and love. But, I have another reason here and dat is the king senses that something’s wrong. His trident went off yesterday, glowing something powerful!”
Melody grew surprised and a little worried. To her, this was serious news. She knew the power of the trident and if it did go off, it could mean something was wrong. She wondered if it sensed her Monsuno friends falling from the sky. “Flounder and I came here to see if anything suspicious happened and if your family are safe.” He added.
Melody nodded. “No, nothing suspicious has happened here.” She replied. “Just me and my new friends enjoying quality time together.” She smiled nervously, but the little crab was not easily convinced. “Hmm....” He muttered, before he jumped off and scuttled over to the children.
Scuttle flew over and landed at his side. “Excuse me, young ones but I have a question I need to ask you.” He asked. “Have you noticed anything suspicious or unusual lately? Have any of you come across something that seemed...peculiar?”
Mainard was sorely to make a smart remark, but Tracy placed a hand on his shoulder and shook her head slightly. She knew any kind of smart talk would be bad news. “No, sir.” Kathrin replied. “We haven’t seen anything unusual and everything is okay.”
Maximus snorted and trotted over, looking over each of the kids suspiciously. This made them more nervous. “Hey, Max...” Garrick spoke gently. “You know you can trust us...?” “Yeah, Maxie...” Luciana added sweetly. “We would never lie to you....” Both twins gave the horse puppy-dog eyes, which he just stared deadpanned.
However, Flounder decided to make himself known as he swam up towards them. The kids looked at him and knew they were going to see a fish talk. “Hey, Sebastain, maybe they know about the strange monsters that the other fishes had seen earlier?”
Melody and the children tensed up at this part. They had forgotten that during their swim with the Monsuno, they were bound to be seen by some sea life. Melody knew that such large creatures would scare the daylights out of small sea creatures. “Monsters?” Mushu asked. “What monsters...?”
Sebastain glared at Flounder for letting that little piece of information slip out, but there was nothing to do about that now. He turned to the children. “Sorry for dat interruption, kids.” He explained. “But Flounder and I have heard new from some of the local sea life in this part of the ocean that they saw four strange monsters swimming nearby!”
The kids let out some nervous laughs and as such, Scuttle decided to get in on the bandwagon too. However, the animals didn’t notice that something was moving in the ocean. “Four monsters?” Mushu asked again.
Sebastain sighed. “Yeah...mon.” He replied. “Four great beasts with strange glowing markings and bright crystals growing from their bodies” “Crystals!?” Iago exclaimed, his eyes growing wide and dollar signs popped out from them. “Where, where!!” He added, picking up the crab and shaking him hard. “Show me the money, show me the money!!”
“Let go of me, ya crazy bird!!” Sebastain yelled, but Pascal helped, by flicking out his tongue and whacking the parrot between the eyes. “Awk!!” Iago screeched, as he dropped the crab and rubbed his forehead. “What ya do that for, frog!?”
Pascal squeaked angrily and flicked Iago’s forehead again with his tongue, making him squawk again. “Alright, enough!!” Sebastain yelled, getting in between the parrot and the chameleon. “We’ve got bigger problems to worry about, like those four monsters!”
The children looked on in worry; they weren’t sure to tell the truth to their animal friends on not. They were so engrossed with their conversation that they didn’t notice “Okay, will someone please tell us about these so-called monsters...” Mushu asked in annoyance. “or are we going to assume you just made them up as an excuse to see your human friends...?”
“I ain’t makin’ it up!” Sebastain exclaimed. “The fishes say they saw a great blue serpent with three heads and eight limbs, along with a great white shark with legs and feet instead of fins.” He added. “They also saw a large blue cat with long fangs and spikes on it’s back.”
“However, it was the largest one they’re all worried about.” He concluded. “It was a large beast, with white fur, and a blue chest.” “It’s had crystals growing on its arms and blue fangs in its mouth.” The crab shuddered a bit.
“Pwwwhahahahahahahaha!!!!” Iago burst out laughing as did Abu and Mushu. “I think your little flight had loosened a few screws in ya shell!” The parrot laughed. “Yeah!” Mushu added. “Who would have though crabs make such good storytellers!!”
“It’s true!” Sebastain argued. “Yeah....they got a point.” Scuttle commented. “I mean, can you imagine? Real life monsters? Now that’s crazy talk!” “Crazy talk?!” Iago added. “More like a loud of malarky...ahahahahahaha!!”
Sebastain growled a bit but Flounder came to his defense. “I dunno, guys...the fishes are really freaked out.” He explained. “And those monsters, especially the large white one; they weren’t unlike anything I had seen before.”
“Ah, just ignore them!” Mushu replied. “It’s probably just some prank you fishes play on each other!” Unbeknownst to them, Lok slowly rose out of the water, along with Glow-Blade, Deep-Six and Mystic-Blade. Charger, Batteram and Clubber also moved from their positions in the shallow part of the ocean.
Evo and Sky-Fall unfurled their wings, creating a small gust of wind while Babeon, Long-Fang, Nite-Stone, Neo-Quickforce and Boost were now emerging from the forest and onto the beach. The children were now so tense, that it showed on their faces. Flounder, Pascal and Maximus saw it and grew puzzled, but the rest of the animals were too immersed in their conversation to notice them.
“I say it’s the truth!” Sebastain yelled crossly. “And, I say it’s malarky!” Iago insisted, crossing his wings in front of him. “As does the monkey, right Abu!?” “Ooh, Eee!” Abu chattered, crossing his furry arms as well.
“Forget it, crab cakes!” Mushu added. “There’s no such thing as real-life monsters, and that’s coming from a guardian dragon, myself!” “I mean, a giant pussy-cat, a walking fish and a giant white sasquatch!!” He laughed. “What’s next, a giant pink bunny...hahahahaha!”
“Yeah!” Scuttle stated firmly and loudly. “Why, if monsters still existed and were here right now, may lighting strike me down where I stand!” “Same here!” Iago added, proudly. “Me three, birds!” Mushu added.
*Growl~~*
It was then, all the animal sidekicks here soft growling behind them and they all turned around slowly. Sure enough...they were staring at the towering forms of the Blue-Moon Monsuno!! Charger and Batteram snorted; Evo, Neo-Quickforce and Sky-Fall made strange sounds from their throats; Glow-Blade hissed while the rest just growled, showing their sharp teeth.
Lok lowered himself down to look at the shocked animals, his bright eyes looking deep into theirs’. “So, what did you say about calling me a sasquatch...?” He asked, a annoyed growl from his throat.
The animals didn’t say anything, their eyes bulged out and their jaws fell agape. They just stared at the towering Monsuno in shock. Then...
*Thud!*
Scuttle and Sebastain fainted on the spot, their eyes rolled to the back of their heads. Flounder was shaking like a leaf in the water, frozen on the spot. As for Iago, Mushu, Pascal, Abu and even Maximus, they all grew pale and then...
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!”
They all screamed/screeched/whinnied in sheer terror at the top of their lungs while the royal children cringed. The Monsuno just stared at them with deadpanned looks. “Do all your friends in your world act like this?” Sky-Fall asked.
“No...” Ping replied. “Not really.” Edgard looked on in amusement. “Well, look on the bright side.” He added. “At least they weren’t struck by lightning!” The other kids chuckled at the little joke but they knew that Melody had some explaining to do. About who she really was and to explain how to their animal friends about why the Monsuno were here.
