Can't Look Back
(completed in the early hours of 8/1/10)
(intro, not in-song, dialogue) I can't look back to this anymore...
La lune...
All the night is come, all I know is gone...
the sun has left, the light has faded for me...
I'm now alone, cold, hurt and feared...
They all refuse to see, all just blinded sheep...
the weight of the hate, but no one cares as of late...
only gods know why I should try...
I can't look back anymore
and see all the things that I've left...
Why...should I try...to convince them? I fear...
that the shade...of the raven...is all...that is real...
I can only look back
and see all the pain that I've feared
I only see red now, all my love is gone...
they shoved me out, the darkness consumed me...
but at last now I can see...
Released from the oppression, my loving "family"
I call to the moon, mother guidance now...
please save me from insanity...
I can't look back anymore
and see all the things that I've left...
Why...should I try...to convince them? I fear...
that the shade...of the raven...is all...that is real...
I can only look back and try to forget
that they shunned me...that they hate me...
In my heart I still hope that they see it my way
but my soul already knows, in its death throes
(in-scene flashes of memory: beatings, maulings, left for dead, licking wounds)
Liar! Liar! (I was also considering changing the second "Liar" to "Murder," but I wasn't sure exactly how well that would work, since we're talking about the subject in question, not the event that I would probably base this around)
Why...should I try...to convince them? I fear...
that the shade...of the raven...is all...that is real...
I can only look back and try to forget
that they shunned me...that they hate me...
The darkness in my eyes has taken my life
and my "family" will die, it's now their time
(fading, not in-song, but in dialogue) It's now their time and I'll suffer them no more...
Credits:
Original Inspiration: The Lion King I and II, scenes: "Be Prepared" (I) and "My Lullaby" (II); also, I wanted to adapt that kind of theme to a more lupine version (hence the reference "La lune..." (which is French for "the moon" in case anybody out there couldn't figure that out) and "I call to the moon, mother guidance now" which is referencing his belief in the goddess that basically inhabits the spirit of the moon (you know, like father sun and mother moon, something like that, haha)
Song Model: "The Cross" by Within Temptation, from the album "The Heart of Everything"
Used For: A possible entry into one of my many rp's or fiction pieces, but really just my first attempt at a songfic.
Note: This may be common sense, but I'm just going to add it. I would like to suggest actually listening to the song while you read. That's how I formed the words and the sentences in the fashion that I did to go along with the almost-the-same syllabic meter (if that's even close to a musical or literature term). It just came to me in a fit of inspiration as I was watching those scenes on YouTube, and I just wanted to get it down. Anyways, hope you enjoy reading it (and possibly singing with it, haha).
Also, after trying this for the first time, and if it gets a nicely positive response (I want a MILLION positive responses, and NO FLAMING!!!!!! lol, just kidding, but please, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, please), I may just open up to the idea of a trade system for this sort of thing (i.e. something you'd like done to this or that song, like a poem or maybe a short story; in exchange for something for me, hehe) for other people. I wish I could set it out for commissions, but sadly, I don't have a Paypal or anything like that or some fancy Swiss bank account that you could wire the money to like all good villain-types in the movie world (not that I'm saying I'm a villain, but of course, I never was the completely hero-ish type...). Anyways, that's just an idea for now.
