(Part 2 To Follow Shortly)
Ok, so we were thinking of talking about it on-the-day, but it's in the middle of the week and it gets kinda busy then soooo....best maybe to do it at the top of the week! Az?
Well, it took them way longer than it should have, I mean, jeez, but the monster-verse is finally getting a series. I mean, we got a source and all, which is cool, but even without one, that place is rife with just so much potential in storytelling and learning. I mean, it's a WHOLE WORLD for crying out loud with creative possibility and stories to tell....
Yeah, don't know why it took them so long..........ohhhh...
Yeeeeah, it's on their streaming thing. What better way to be more exclusive than to put it on their exclusive service to compete with the others going out there.
Whiiiiich means we can't watch it like the new Rugrats....oooohhh....
Might be for the best. For one thing, our resident lizard is not in it.......which is both a good and bad thing. Bad, because he's kind of an essential person in what went on....and good because if they just shove him into things as a clockpunch 'villain', it would cheapen the guy's decent qualities.
Yeeah, that would be sloppy.
Granted, I doubt they won't EVER put him in. It's Dinsey...they'll use every resource they have. But, for now, at least, he's in the safe zone.
As for the show itself, Monsters at Work, coming out June 7th for those who don't know...follows a college grad who, surprise surprise, had figured out what he wanted to be and studied and worked hard to be it..........only to learn that apparently the job is obsolete now.
Which is.....
Dumb. Really dumb. According to series info, this all apparently happens at the end of the stuff that happened in Monsters Inc. Which is....well, you have to dig a little deeper. The very end actually takes place about a year after the events of the 'child incident'....so Laugh Energy stuff has just gotten started. Which makes sense, in a way. I mean, it's not like they're starting RIGHT after the blue behemoth discovered Laugh Energy....right?
Well...heh...
I'm hoping the trailers of Roz saying those two are in charge (more on that later), is a flashback of sorts instead of sticking in the series...because the rest of the stuff kind of falls apart from a conceptual standpoint if it doesn't.
Well it's been a few years...sure they're trying their best heh.
Rigel I'm an engineer, I know this stuff. You CAN"T switch energy sources over night, particularly a new source. I mean, when I try to get Randall to explain how they covert the stuff, he gets a bit dodgy on it, but just going by the base word of 'energy', it's not that easy.
I mean, take a look at the end of MI, the very end. Notice those collection canisters? They're HUGE. It's not just to accommodate more energy coming in...it's also because it's necessary. Remember the smaller Scream Canisters? Well, with the rate of laughter going into THOSE things, even if it were compatible, might cause the thing to EXPLODE.
....ooooh! Like in MU when they scared those adults and the scream canisters started to go nuts!
Exactly. A new energy source would take months, if not years to implement. And that's just the technical side of things.
Technical?
Yep. The monster world revolves around Scarering. It's not going to disappear over night. Which kind of makes Tyler Tuskmon's story kind of.....holey. I mean, obviously, you can't change power sources overnight, you can't just drop Scareing altogether, and the public certainly ain't gonna stand of it. So it kinda damages the whole premise of the series to just go 'ok, this happened, deal with it'.
Oooh, see your point...
I mean, it's nice that the world is getting some attention, and the series will probably be good for a few chuckles....but I'm glad Randall's not a part of it...cause there's a lot of holes there.
Yeah....plus I think I read a story way back about a similar premise...so somebody kind of already did it heh.
Yeah. I mean that premise stuff is really obvious...but as for the series as a whole, have to see. If we get the chance to ever check it out and all.
ooooh. DVD?
HBO did it. The only question on Disney's mind is....?
.....if it...makes money?
BINGO!

Yay! I watched the premiere episodes last night, believe it or not it was actually really funny. But of course there's a bit of flaws there as well, including some you had mentioned. It starts literally one day after the movie, ONE DAY!!! Mike and Sully sound fine, but every other old character sound like they definitely aged 20 years and not by one day (meanwhile Smitty and Needleman's new voice actor is trying his best...)
One of the new characters Duncan is pretty rad and he's giving off Randall vibes even tho I think he's a good guy? I'm not even sure what's up with him but I like him. Overall I'm interested to see where this show is gonna go. I'd love an updated Randall model like everyone else is getting... but I did not like how his story was done in University, I'd hope they at least do him better in here if they do bring him back.

So it really IS the day after??
Oh wow, talk about screwing the pipe on wrong. I mean, is it the day after the incident...or literally at the end, where it's been a year since then, given the context clues?
I'm guessing the former, but even if the later, that is WAY too soon. I mean...ugh, already went through it....
Well it's good the franchise is getting some attention at least. I'm surprised Smitty, Needleman, and Flint are still around...thought there might be some restructuring....
Well, obviously new faces. I DID spot one of the goths from MU in...Mike's orientation of sorts. Which is...weird...considering MU was years ago...anyway...bringing back some original VA's may be strange, but shows dedication.
Like the RR crew hehehe.
Yes...that. As for Duncan, I think they said he's aiming to get somebody's job, I think the head of MIFT? I mean it's kind of...basic ambition to go up the ladder of command. I mean Randall aimed for a higher position for the respect and admiration (didn't even plan to get the other two fired, they would just be working under him).
Well MU does show that at his core, Randall's a good guy. Just got twisted up thanks to a freakin' frat and being knocked down all the time. I think most people just didn't 'get' how much being taken down at the Games got him (I mean, public embarrassment, being beaten by a cheater, and discarded by the ROR (people DID notice his roughed up jacket right?).
Well I'm kind of glad there seemed to be some officialness that Randall's not in it...at least for the first wave of episodes...hopefully gives time that they'll do him right. I mean just throwing him in as an antagonist clock-puncher-style would just be a waste.
Yeah it would. Fellow lizard and all...

Kinda figured that. But it's still pretty fast. I mean, right after a door breach, a new CEO (unqualified mind ya), and saying "no scarers" in a day? That's kinda....yeeaaah.
Well...people do need power...so maybe they rushed it because of that?
There ARE other production facilities, MI isn't the only one...guess just the most popular. Still, can't expect Disney to get things right with other material, even if it's close to them...I mean, look at Artemis.
....you got a point heh.
