How can we make him happier!

I feel that picture. Sometimes life is tough and you have to go through those times. Getting yourself distracted by forcing yourself to be happy is not a good thing. Getting stronger to build inner muscles and finally getting things sortet out to get out of that valley of tears is the way you just have to go.

To be able to deal with life and other tough times that will come in the future.

That is just the way how life works. The sooner we learn that the sooner we can accept it and the sooner we can finally really live and not just pretend to.
