
Alaus oculatus or eyed click beetle :) Nearly 2 inches long! He was alive, just playing dead :P Found at the local botanical gardens during a walk with my friend Kristy (who is not only gorgeous, but loves bugs, too!) She loved this guy :D I almost caught him, but didn't know if they were rare so I figured a picture and release would be best.

Never seen one of these guys before. He's pretty cool looking. As far as I can tell you won't see those here in NY. But who knows they're probably in some region I've been to before. We've got a bunch of those little black ones, the shiny green ones and the tiny ones that like to nip you.

In Germany, there are only small brown click beetles. I collected nearly a hundred of them for my scientific work as a biologist. They all jumped in my face XD That made me really mad, but I released all of them alive :3 They don't seem to like it to get caught ^^
