These vehicles showcase the end of an era. The autumn years of domestically made vehicles. Made of all metal, Motors with more than 4 cylinders, and all the power behind that motor you’d ever need. With the advent of the crossover and much much cheaper and efficient vehicles made overseas one day all three vehicles in this photo will be a distant memory.

Ain’t that the truth. My daily is a 1999 2 door yellow Jimmy. It’s not worth anything, it’s inferior to anything made in the 21st century in many ways. Yet I still throw parts onto it in the hopes it will last as long as I do. Maybe it’s a unhealthy attachment. Idk.
Well the main reason why the american sedan lost it's popularity I believe is a result of increased safety/emission standards. It's much harder to design a car these days that meet safety and emission standards, and when you do well.. it's got the same price tag as that Ford Explorer that has 2 more seats, more cargo volume and just as good fuel economy. SUV's and Crossovers are sold as "trucks" which follow different rules and are cheaper to produce because the manufacturer doesn't need to over engineer to meet the standards sedans need to these days. The american sedan died in 2011 with the Crown Victoria.
I grew up riding around in the back of an '87 Dodge Diplomat. While I appreciate the sentiment about all-steel American made cars, M-body Chryslers were absolute slugs. The extremely short gear ratio they put in the rear ends (rather than developing a 4-speed transmission like GM and Ford did) did them in I think.
