Crickets chirped lightly as the black car rolled up to the small house. The wolfox put the vehicle in park and sighed a little warily. He wondered what he would say as he looked toward the house. After everything he learned today where would he even start? “No point putting it off.” he thought as he turned the car off and took the key out of the ignition.
His footsteps were slow as he approached the door. With what he did how would she react? What would she say? She had given him permission to, but still guilt pricked at the back of his mind. He turned a look back at his car when he stepped onto the porch. The moonlight bathed the vehicle in pale light. He could always turn back and come back tomorrow. He shook his head and pressed the doorbell to announce his presence.
“C-Coming!” came the female voice from inside the house as he heard footfalls approaching the door lightly. “Who is it?” she asked curiously next.
“It’s Sly.” he answered. A soft gasp could be heard from the other side of the door before the lock clicked open and the door began to open.
The emerald green eyes of the Dalmatian on the other side of the door widened at the sight of the wolfox. It was as if she hadn’t believed his voice and had just gotten confirmation that it was him at the door. “Good evening Pips.” he said simply.
“Sly I…I didn’t expect you to come by tonight.” said Pips truthfully. Sly raised an eyebrow when she said nothing more. She just stood at the door.
“Are you going to invite me in? There’s something we should talk about.” he said after clearing his throat softly.
“O-Oh…of course. Come in.” she said almost shakily as she opened the door wider for him to enter.

Sly stepped into the living room and Pips closed the door behind him. “S-So how was she? I-I mean how’d it go? At mums I mean.” she asked uneasily.
“I enjoyed myself. Your mother is a good cook, and an interesting person. She’s just as warm as I remembered her to be when we were kids.” he answered.
Each word Sly spoke. Each syllable that left his mouth sent small feelings of dread through the Dalmatian. They made her want to run away. She had to fight herself to stay still. It was as if she was expecting him to say something specific. And it was only a matter of time till he did. “What did she cook?” she asked curiously.
“Shepherd’s pie. It was great.” he responded. He wasn’t facing her. And she hadn’t moved away from the doorway. Both parties dealt with the awkwardness in their own way while trying not to add to it.
“I told her it was your favorite. So…you said that afterward she asked you about a private…yoga session?” she asked.
“Yes. It was a surprise. And so was what came next. It was just as you said. She made it clear what she wanted shortly after.” he admitted.
“I assume that you were able to scratch her itch then?” she asked partly accusingly.
“Yes. Which brings me to why I came here to talk to you tonight.” he said. He stopped when he heard sniffling. He finally turned to face her and could see now why she hadn’t moved to invite him in. In the low light he hadn’t noticed before. She was in her pajamas, and there were wet stains on them and on her cheeks. Her eyes were bloodshot and her tail was tucked between her legs. “Hey what’s wrong? Are you okay?” he asked quickly seeing this.
“No…This is the part where you tell me that you’re dumping me…isn’t it?” she asked as tears began to well up in her eyes.
“What? No. No I wouldn’t…” he started before he stopped himself. He let out a sigh as he collected his thoughts. He was so worried about what he was going to say regarding what he’d done with, and learned from Mrs. Barkin, he’d not thought about what Pips would have been going through considering her past. “Come here.” he said comfortingly as he sat on the couch.
Pips sniffled and wiped away the tears that sat in her eyes threatening to overflow any second and stepped forward unsteadily.
When she reached him he took her hand and held it as she sat down next to him. He took note of another thing she was currently wearing now. “You’re wearing your collar.” he said idly.
“Yes I…I hoped…I prayed that you would not be like the others. I thought that maybe putting it on would help you somehow feel how I much I didn’t want to lose you.” she explained as she looked away from him slightly embarrassed. She felt him run his hand over the leather article and sighed softly at the familiar touch. “I put it on after I sent you the last text.” she finished.
“The one where you asked me not to forget about you?” he asked as he turned her chin to face him again.
“I…I just…I didn’t…” she stammered softly as she looked into the male’s eyes.
“I know. Your mother told me how you’ve lost boyfriends in the past because of her being unable to control her…condition.” he said softly.
“I trust you…I just…with her…it’s happened multiple times. I’ve tried to distance myself from her…and the thought that I could have let it happen again instead of keeping away from her just…” she was barely holding back tears now. She felt herself pulled forward as the male embraced her. Tears began to stream down her cheeks anew as she hugged him back.
“I understand. Let it out Puppy.” he said comfortingly. Pips gripped the male tightly as if she was afraid if she let go that this would all be a dream and he wouldn’t actually be there with her. “You don’t have to worry about me going anywhere. I will be here in the role you chose me to be in for as long as you want me to be.” he whispered. Pips nodded her head into his chest as she continued to sob.
Time passes as the pair sit embraced on the couch. Pips continued to cry. Obviously this was something she’s been holding in for a long time. Sly said nothing. He just made sure she knew that he was there for her. Slowly stroking her back and her head occasionally.
Half an hour later Pips had calmed enough to stop crying. She still held him for a bit before she pulled back slowly. “Feel better?” he asked with a gentle smile as he lifted her chin to look into her face.
Pips nodded her head softly. “Yes Alpha. Do you promise you won’t leave me for my mum?” she asked seriously.
“You have my word.” he replied just as seriously.
“Thank you. But if you didn’t come here for that; what did you stop by for?” asked the Dalmatian curiously now.
“While I didn’t come here for the reason you feared; the reason I am here does involve your mother just the same.” he answered to her confusion. Pips cocked her head to the side before he began to speak again. “When you agreed to go meet your mother today, did you initially plan to go through with it?” he asked.
“Yes. It’s been so long since I last saw her. I miss her, and I want to see her. I just couldn’t bring myself to.” she replied.
“Good. That’s a start. Because I want to help you.” he said.
“What do you mean?” she asked next.
“I’m going to set up a date. And you will see each other again. She misses you too.” he explained.
“But I…”
“Don’t worry about the arrangements. I’ll set up everything. And now that you know there’s no danger of me leaving you it should be okay to meet her right?” he coaxed.
Pips turned away from him as thoughts whizzed by in her mind. Should she go along with this? Sly watched the hesitation written on her face. He expected that she might not want to go along with the plan.
“Your mom also told me about something else that happened to you. Something that I hope to use to help out here. Forgive me if it sounds horrible, I thought it up on the way over.” he said with a soft smile. Pips turned to look at him again and cocked her head to the side curiously.
Sly bopped his head softly as he closed his eyes to concentrate. The dalmation’s ears twitched as he began to hum the first notes of a song she recognized. “Jessie’s Girl”
“Pippy and her mom. Things are rocky between them nowadays. The distance ‘tween them is overwhelmingly vast. I want to help them get back to how they were in the past. And there’s wariness in her eyes. They want to make up with each other I just know it. But Pips is hesitating to take that first step. You know I want to help out Pippy’s Mom. I want to help Pips see her mom. If only she would give me a chance!”
Sly opened his eyes and looked down to see Pips trying her best not to laugh in response. “What do you think?” he asked with a smile at the reaction.
“Well you’re no Weird Alpaca that’s for sure.” she said as she wiped a tear from her eye and smiled for the first time since he got there. I take it from the lyrics that I’m the only one hesitating then?” she asked curiously.
“Your mom has been trying to reach you. There’s a certain hesitation on her end too, but it’s more doubt that you will forgive her. The ball is entirely in your court Pips. If reconciliation with your mother is something you want then you have all the power to make it so.” replied Sly seriously.
“I…I see…” Pips replied, still unsure.
“I would be with you of course; every step of the way. Just like I would have been today.” he said comfortingly.
“You promise?” asked the Dalmatian looking up at him.
“Of course.” he responded with that gentle smile.
“Alright…Then I’ll trust you. Thank you Sly…Alpha Sly.” said Pips gratefully. She was a little more at ease now. Who knows? Maybe things would turn out alright.

Heavy air to clear here. But it seems things weathered enough to at least try. Pips was carrying that worry, that weight for years, and even more so since Sly went to her mother's house. She needed to let that out. Sly wants to help, but how much of an uphill battle will this be? Has too much damage already been done?
Also I have newly renewed respect for Weird Al Yankovic. Even doing that little bit of a parody was DIFFICULT! And it probably isn't even that good.

This story's so sweet, and I love how tender and sweet Sly's being with Pips. Got me almost tearing up reading it, if I didn't stop half way to open Jessie's Girl on Youtube so I can mentally sing Sly's song to the tune.
Gods this whole story so far is just, -chef's kiss- masterclass work right here. I love it, I love it so much~! <3 <3
